Big Ben sacked even during a bye week

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Ben Roethlisberger(notes) can get sacked even during an off week.

A scoring change has given the Minnesota Vikings an additional sack of Roethlisberger during Pittsburgh’s 27-17 victory on Sunday. Roethlisberger was sacked four times, giving him 20 for the season.

A play in which Roethlisberger was initially given a 1-yard loss on a run has been changed to a sack by Minnesota’s Kevin Williams(notes).

Roethlisberger is on pace to be sacked 46 times, as many times as he was dropped last season.

Roethlisberger has been sacked a league-high 212 times since beginning his career in 2004, 12 times more during that period than the Rams’ Marc Bulger(notes). No other quarterback has been sacked more than 174 times.

To David T... Big Ben like everyone else in this great country is INNOCENT until proven guilty.. And I promise u he wont be found guilty.. its bogus.. his motorcycle accident was a learning experience and not his fault..As for a decaying franchise.. wait til the end of the season when they claim their 7th superbowl and you know what will be atonishing? Big Ben will be at the helm for 3 of them, can anyone say Bradshaw? Your a loser and a Steeler hater.. go stick your head back in the sand and comke out when u have something intellegent to post..Go Pittsburgh Steelers!!~

david...what rating system would you want to rate ben by? apparently not the same rating system that all the other qb's in the nfl use. you want him to be rated on your hater's scale i guess. and he gets no other treatment than any other player or person gets in this country for his actions. so the david rating scale is a little lopsided. any new charges pending against you dave?

david t, you are an idiot. Rape charges? Bogus, ask any lawyer. Decaying franchise? You need a brain. Not sure why the uniforms have anything to do with playing. Just shows you're an even bigger idiot than previously thought. Violent cycle accident when he wasn't wearing a helmet? Find your brain in the toilet and put it back in your head, or better yet just flush it and save us the embarrassment of having to call you a human like us. Who cares if he wasn't wearing a helmet, it isn't illegal in PA. You must be a Browns or Ravens fan. Or even a disgruntled Cards, Vikes, or Seahawks fan. Or a fan of any other team in the NFL that doesn't have 6 Lombardi's.

Grow up and learn to wipe your own ass.

Roethlisberger is so overrated it's ridiculous. He is also suspected and under investigation for rape. His place is in prison, not playing QB for a decaying NFL franchise....no matter how ugly their uniforms are. Rape is perhaps the worst crime that exists and this is not the first off field incident for him......he has already shown total disregard for his team, coaches and, most importantly, children who are fans of the NFL (Remember his violent motorcycle accident when he wasn't even wearing a helmet?) This thug should be suspended immediatly by the commish and, once convicted, sent to prison for the mandatory 20 years that violent, sexual predators are subject to.

All other bustas are not starters after being sacked that many times but Big Ben is still going. We need a Cowboys vs. Steelers championship game.

Nobody will ever win em all. But I'll take the Steelers chances, LED by Big Ben, against any team, any field, any time. Stop bashing the O-line. They've been a lot better this year. A lot of the sacks are Ben's fault. I wouldnt have it any other way. The big plays are worth a few sacks.

...having just read the 35 previous posts, aside from a couple sad "sacks" the only inferiority complex is coming from the Steeler fans themselves, believe me people who have a grasp of the game know exactly how good a team resides in Pittsburgh...I truly believe the resentment should be directed towards the media and the material they write....now I must respond to one post here regarding young Tom and his child....the sex was consensual, Bens has yet to be determined......

LMFAO some people will be haters no matter what, the same ones who say we only win because of defense etc. are the same people who try to dis-credit rice because he had montana/young, bradshaw for having the steel curtain, the cowboys for having a ridiculously good offensive line etc. Really you mean they won because they scored more points than they allowed? That's unheard of! Since bens been in the league he has the most wins (in both the regular season and playoff categories) & most importantly most SB rings. Brady has 1 ring since ben been in th NFL, bens rookie season yet he's still the NFL golden boy.

To all you cats who find fault our STEELERS,Big Ben is the real deal. He is not one of those QB's who is afraid to hold the ball and take a hit if need be. Most of these other so called QB's will throw the football to the sidelines to avoid getting a broken fingernail or messy uniform. Ben knows that when the play does not develope quick enough to try to make a positive play, even if it means taking a hit. He plays the game the way it should be played, ( KICK ASS IN YOUR FACE FOOTBALL ) !!! He and the Steelers will go down in history as the Best Team in Fooltball.. PERIOD !!! How many super Bowls has your team won ?

All the Big Ben/Steelers haters make me laugh. They are lucky, they suck, only win because of this or that. I guess you could say that about any team that has ever won in history! Good teams can win with a lot of points or by 3 points. Great teams find a way to win when their backs are against the wall. When Ben or any of the Steelers backs are against the wall they bring the heat. Remember the Super Bowl? How about a couple of weeks ago. Ben throws and INT that gets run back for a TD. Any other QB starts playing conservative. Ben comes out throwing. He is not a mailman, he is a GUNSLINGER!

Thats what makes Big Ben so great. He is built for it. Big and Tough. He is the new Brett Farve and once his line improves the sacks will decrease and Ben will become even more dangerous.Maybe Ben should run more,or maybe move the pocket until line matures.Big Ben is just outstanding the week off will do him well.

As Steelers fans, we don't care about Ben taking sacks because he holds on to the ball. If he throws the ball because he's getting sacked then he wouldn't be a "Play Maker". Lets see the stat where he avoids the rush and makes a play down field. Yeah, there isn't one! If there was he would be leading the league. Ben can do what he wants because that's what he does. When you win 2 Super Bowls and in one you drive 84 yards for a TD, then you can do what you want! Or we can have a QB like Russell or Delhomme who just give up when they get pressure..... Think about it. The sack stat is way over rated. Think about it...
