Ravens’ LT Gaither lines up at practice

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP)—When the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive line returned to work Wednesday, Jared Gaither(notes) was lined up with the starters at his customary left tackle position during blocking drills.

After missing two games with a scary neck injury that caused him to be carted off the field Oct. 4 against the New England Patriots, Gaither is expected to return Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

His neck is “pretty much 100 percent,” Gaither said, adding that he didn’t expect any position change after speculation arose that he might be shifted to right tackle.

“I expect to be back where I left off,” he said.

On Monday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh declined to specify whether Gaither would play left or right tackle.

In Gaither’s absence, rookie first-round pick Michael Oher(notes) started at left tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Minnesota Vikings. Now, Oher is going back to his normal right tackle spot.

“Jared looks great,” Oher said. “He’s been working hard to come back. He looks like the old Gaither to me.”

When asked if he thought he would return to right tackle, Oher replied: “Of course. Why not?”

Against the Broncos, both Gaither and Oher figure to be tested by NFL sacks leader Elvis Dumervil(notes). The speedy outside linebacker leads the NFL with 10 sacks.

Dumervil is tied as the second-fastest player to reach 10 sacks since it became an official NFL statistic in 1982, matching former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan’s(notes) total for six games in 2001.

“He’s an explosive player, a great player,” Oher said. “He has a high motor.”

The Broncos lead the NFL in scoring defense (11.0 points) and third-down percentage (26.9 percent). Dumervil has registered seven sacks on third downs.

“The Broncos are going to test everybody’s pass protection, for sure,” Harbaugh said. “Our pass protection has been good, but it needs to get better. What makes them good is they beat blocks one-on-one. They do a nice job of bull-rushing, and they do a nice job of getting on edges. They’re relentless, they never stop and they’ve got some talented, fast guys.”

    A,

I don't know how you could be wrong in so many ways but whatever floats your boat. We don't have the hardest schedule at all. And even last season at week 7 we were 4-3, what happened that year? We made it to the frickin AFC championship game. Bengals haven't faced anyone worthwhile yet (outside of the Broncos but I still think they will flop like they do every year) while we just went through probably the tougher part of our schedule. Season is far from over.

    Souless,

I swear to god you use your SR-71 line everytime you post, get a new one, so go google memorable quotes and see if you can't copyright infringe off one of those, your quote is dead.

Go Ravens, everyone else who talks trash, suck a fat one.

Strike Pilot you're 100% right. This other nut talking trash needs 2 realize what does'nt kills you can make you stronger. With Gaither back the O line will be back on course to be dominating. We have a very good chance of going 11-5. The only team that I would worry about is the Colts (Da_n them!)
In most games played in the trenches, Big and strong beasts small and fast. We can go back 2 avg 30 passes and dominate the clock and field position game! Joe Kool is at his best in this position. 1 or 2 stops with that young coach trying to force Moreno down or throat instead of passing on 1st and 2nd down, We Win! That Marshall is a Beast. Must be able 2 double him and let Ortan go 2 Royal.

    strike pilot,

No offense, but you're lost...the team is average, at best...with the hardest schedule, unless we win the division (very hard at this point), the season is almost over...we need to go 8-2 to get into the playoffs at this point...

David Ginsburg, if you really wrote this article you need to be FIRED. You are a jackass.... he was not "shoved" Flacco threw the ball, warren took TWO steps then lowered his shoulder, led with his helmet and drive flacco back three... i say again THREE steps and drove him INTO Gaither, then drove Flacco into the ground. Wheres the roughing the passer on that one? These refs make me sick. They all should lose their job. The NFL has gotten so pathetic. I hope brady gets his knees jacked up again.... F*** him.... and F*** you david.... I hope you get fired...

Ravens suck & the SR-71 is a relic from a bygone era that's gathering dust in new mexico, don't get me wrong the SR-71 was a marvel of engineering but the RAVENS STILL SUCK

Attention all RAVENS! Be very happy with the team this year. Even if we did go through last season with a AFC NORTH division title, or the AFC champion, our chances are even better because we have more will and determination than ever before. I encourage the RAVENS to just keep up the spirit!!!! Don' worry about the other teams. Concentrate your ENERGY on the games as they come.
