Jets’ Ryan ‘disrespected’ by Pats’ late deep throw

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP)—New York Jets coach Rex Ryan felt “disrespected” by the New England Patriots for throwing a deep pass with the game well in hand Sunday.

The Patriots were ahead 31-14 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Tom Brady(notes) threw long for Randy Moss(notes) on third-and-6 from their 45-yard line. The pass fell incomplete, but riled up Ryan.

“We need to stop them anyway, so it’s no biggie, but I was surprised, and I did feel a little bit disrespected,” Ryan said.

Ryan added that he didn’t know if Bill Belichick was behind the call, saying it might have been something Brady and Moss did on their own. The Jets coach was also asked if he thought perhaps maybe it was intended to be one final message to cornerback Darrelle Revis(notes), who has developed a rivalry with Moss.

“I looked at that as an opportunity for us,” Ryan said. “Throw it up deep, our guy is going to come down with it more than your guy is. If they want to throw it up to Revis, that’s great. If they would have thrown it up to (Wes) Welker again, I would have had a problem with it.”

Moss had five catches for 34 yards, while Welker had 15 receptions for 192 yards.

Ryan, who created controversy in the offseason when he said he didn’t come to New York to “kiss Bill Belichick’s rings,” said he called a timeout with 5 seconds left as a response to the Patriots’ play call.

    S Mak...
I do believe I blamed Tom Brady's INT and Laurence Maroney's fumble in what I wrote. So yeah...try again. Don't spout that cheating crap. 2007 Week One 2 minutes into the first quarter it stopped. It wasn't even cheating AS even Bill Cowher, I'm sure you know Bill Cowher as you are a Steelers fan, admitted to doing it during his time as a coach. Along with Dennis Green admitting it as well. I also want to add that after they were found doing that they went on to SWEEP the season and go 16-0. Tom Brady broke the TD pass record and Randy Moss broke the single season TD reception record. So enough with the cheating accusations...classless fans only resort to that. I don't want to have to bring up that Tom Brady doesn't rape girls...hmm, now who does? He wears #7. Named after a British Landmark...Don't be jealous that the Pats can beat their divisional opponents and the Steelers got swept by the Bengals...

    GO PATS!!!

wow guys let's just call it like it is the colts are my team but they did just barely win the game and I can't help but be happy for them, Rex got what he had coming to him and I think we should take a hint from the guy at the top of the page and try to show some respect for the sport and if you think about it most of the arguments made here are ridiculous and petty compared to the issues with our troops if you guys want to get passionate about something lets get passionate about showing our boys they have a country standing behind them and not take our free lives for granted, just a thought fellas, just a thought.

This is the start of the holidays and after over 92 years of them, let all of us remember that this is just a game. Not life or death and the boys overseas don't get to participate in them with their families. Everybody keeps writing all this hate them this or that and whatever. IT"S A GAME. Sometimes the better team wins and sometimes it doesn't. We all need to be thankful for what we have here at home. Not everyone gives a rats butt if this team wins or loses here and it is becoming completely out of line to read some of the writings that are posted here. So far it has been a good football year in the colleges and the pros and now we get into the basketball seasons. Just Go all the teams and hope no one gets hurt and everyone enjoys these games for what they are GAMES. Happy Thanksgivings and the Holidays.......

    @ Jefrey #1117...

You do realize that without a Brady INT, a Maroney fumble, and a bad call by the refs...The game should have been 48-28. The Patriots manhandled and controlled the Colts until the 4th quarter. So yeah the Colts won...barely. It wasn't like the Pats went into Indy and got knocked in the mouth. You Colts fans seem to just dwell on that. Yes a win is a win, congrats on that. However, you are treating it like you won the SuperBowl already. You won't go undefeated this season...that's 100% sure. When you havea weak schedule, it's not hard to do. If you were a real fan you'd respect the fact that you almost lost that game and the better team did not win. Take from this Jets thing, Rex Ryan and his team treated week 2 as a superbowl...they won. Now they are 4-6 and have no chance to make the playoffs...and the Pats just humiliated them. A regular season in means nothing...you need to back it up in the Playoffs...the road does go through Indy, that is true...but its a road block for the Colts to even think they can run with the big dogs. Also the game was 2 weeks ago...get over it, your team one. Us Pats fans and the team are only focused on this week vs the Saints...

Smack talk gets you nowhere. Humble pie gets you 3 SuperBowl rings and a decade of AFC East Domination...thank you.

You Pat's fans are a riot! Who's 10-0 this year and has beaten those girly-Pats? Last check, that would be the Indy Colts. Hopefully, after Monday night, New Orleans will have shown Mrs. Brady and her team out the door of the Dome with another loss.

I played at a Div1 school 10 years ago and now I am the DC at one of the biggest high-schools in my state. I love the Saints and I think this game between the Pats and the Saints has the potential to be one of the best games to date and I would love to see these 2 teams in the Super Bowl. What football players learn and coaches try and teach their players is that you are not going to win every battle. Sometimes you have to give up a 15 yard pass, take a sack or run out the clock . . . You have to look at the bigger picture. Really why you would you have Brady in the game at that point or Moss is not smart coaching. The Pats are lucky someone didnt take a shot at moss or Brady on that play. We all saw what happpened when Brady was out last year, without Brady the Pats are not going to the superbowl. You always have to think of what is best for the team, that play was not done for the best of the team.

Don't think that went unnoticed by other teams. Lets say the Pats are playing some team with 1 or 2 wins and they pull a stunt like that again Brady or Moss may have some player end their season. I really hope Belichick had no knowledge of that throw, because in no way did that play do anything but set up the Pats for future reprecussions. Coaches have different styles and approaches, but not many coaches at any level would leave their franchise player in a game they were winning by 17 points with only 45 seconds left. Emotions are always running high and that is just not smart football.

Orlando, you're simply delusional. The Colts didn't *****-slap anyone. They won by ONE whopping point, with :13 left in regulation. Get your facts straight. And THAT wouldn't have happened but for some "gifts" from the refs, including that phantom PI call in the fourth quarter.

After reviewing the play in question the Jets just happened to be blitzing 7 men on this play. Who is disrespecting who here. Maybe Rex's players took it upon themselves to do that but I doubt it.
