Favre hears boos everywhere he turns at Lambeau

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—This sure wasn’t the reception Brett Favre(notes) used to get at Lambeau Field.

Favre was booed loudly when he and the Minnesota Vikings took the field for their first offensive series Sunday, and there were more whistles and jeers anytime the former Green Bay Packers icon got near the ball. This is Favre’s first trip back to Green Bay since signing with the Vikings, the Packers’ loathsome rival.

Favre showed flashes of the gunslinger who delighted Packers fans for 16 years, hitting Chester Taylor(notes) for a 20-yard gain on third-and-5. But the Vikings were forced to punt when Favre couldn’t connect with Bernard Berrien on third-and-9 from his own 45 and it was the Green Bay defense that was cheered as he left the field.

As a Packer fan I did not and will not cheer for Brett while he wears a Vickings uniform. To all you so called Packer fans who are embarassed by the booing of Brett understand this: I will appreciate Brett for what he accomplished in Green Bay at the APPROPRIATE time. That time is when his jersey is retired and he is entered into the Packers Hall of Fame and NOT before that. That means when he is finished playing. By me booing him has nothing to do with me not appreciating his accomplishments. It means he is now a Minnesota Viking and he is the opponent. His success as a Viking means the Packers aren't succeeding. A true Packer fan cheers the Packers no matter what.

One last thing to remember all you Brett Favre fans: The Green Bay Packers traded for Brett Favre and gave him his chance in the NFL. Otherwise he was a third string QB in Atlanta going nowhere. Jerry Glanville hated Brett and was ready to cut him anyway.

The Packers won titles before Brett Favre and will be around long after Brett retires.

My question is this: Who owes who?

I am a Packer fan, I feared and dreaded the boos and totally embarrased by them! Packer Fans should have cheered him on his way out at the very least-there is no denying how great he is. He's so fun to watch, a legend, the best EVER, he deserves that respect. He's earned it! *He retired because management didn't want him-they stated workn on that when Ted Thompson started. I think Murphy and McCarthy contributed to his departure too. You don't stay where your not wanted and unfortunately the Vikings are a perfect fit for him -lucky Minnesota. It's just so darn sad to see him in purple-makes me tear. I think Brett made McCarthy and others look better than they are by being Brett. Now that he's gone the coaching and admin. are pretty questionable. (Having the youngest team in the league every year- won't work) Brett can take them to the Superbowl and Packers fans should be right behind him (Packers won't be ready anytime soon). He's still family, no matter where he goes.
MVP would be fitting 4 for 4 at 40!!!!

Green Bay used to be one of my favorite teams, way back to the very beginning BEFORE our beloved Cowboys. To see the fans react in such a way has poisoned my image of Green Bay. That was the worst display of temper tantrams I've ever seen. I don't know much about Bret Favre except his winning record. If that had been Troy and they had not let him come back, I would have cheered him on as always, Sure I would have rather seen our boy's win, but I would have been proud that Troy was doing so well.
I'm glad Farve is still playing as he proved today, he's still got it and now I am a Minnesotta Fan which is hard to believe, I love the greats and he is definitely one of the greats. Too bad the Packer's officials didn't believe he could win for them.

How about laying the blame on the right feet.... Ted Thompson's pathetic feet. I have always bled green... but guess what? I was totally cheering Favre on to kick butt today. One of the things I always was proud of about being a Packer Fan was the classy fans... guess THAT is over too. You Packer Fans are totally pathetic and I am proud to call myself a Brett Favre fan and a FORMER Packer Fan! You are all disgustingly simple!

Thompson had a taste of success with Farve, his marquis QB... but instead of credit where it was due, ol' Ted just thought he deserved it because he was Ted Thompson. Classic hubris.
And look at the masses turning out to boo the QB who never missed a game for so many years and years and successful years. Way to go, Pack fans - you've firmly established yourselves as low class rubes from the woods of the north who'll turn on their own best friend the moment things don't seem to go their way.

....wake up folks - he never wanted to come back to the Packers - he saw better opportunities in spring of '08 (with Childress stroking his ego) and Thompson didn't play to Favre's ego like Sherman and others before him did......we as fans(Pack and Vikes) are delusional to think that booing fans or fans in general matter to him.....it's a league of egos and endorsements.....i.e. the Vikes try again for a new stadium two days after a win over San Fran, enough said...... and by the way, if the Vikes make the playoffs, it would do well to prepare for let downs as Brett has a tendency to melt down in the playoffs which will work quite nicely with Minnesota's tendency to do the same.......

Its ok Favre bashers, you can always hope he will fail next week...Besides, it's fun to laugh at you all when he surpasses expectations AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN! GB fans...Sorry, but face it...Favre's better than even you guys thought. Great to see a 40 year old Favre spank the team that abandoned him and tried to ruin his career, and who's fans did nothing but boo him and actually hope that he got seriously injured! You people make me sick! GO FAVRE! GO VIKINGS!

Favre didn't dump the Packers, Stone Face Thompson dumped Favre and got exactly what he deserved. It's a shame a classy organization like the Pakcers have to have Thompson running the show and if I'm not mistaken didn't he himself dump the Packers and go to Seattle a number of years ago. Booing Favre who put Green Bay back on the map after 30 years of pitiful performances was not very classy either and now you may as well settle in for another losing season.

Minnesota would never treat its heroes like Green
Bay did Favre! When Tori Hunter returned he was cheered, along with Brian Aguilera, and Rod Carew! Favre was fired by THE GREEN BAY PACKERS!! THEY TURNED THEIR BACKS ON HIM, HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR GREEN BAY BUT THE PACKERS HAD OTHER PLANS!

That kind of reporting makes me embarrassed to say I live even near Green Bay. The news media has done its part to put salt in peoples imagined wounds too.

The mayor names a street after Rodgers JUST days before this game - no street for Brett and look what he has dont for the city - not to mention the Packers. The mayor wears flip flops to make fun of Favre - Bad Form - Shame on him.
One of the local high schools will remove students that boo at a game- because its poor sportsmanship --- the media and mayor encourage it. Shame on them.

Lombardi - remember that name? - unretired to coach the Redskins - did anyone call him a traitor?

This Packer team is a disgrace. Ted Thompson HAS put his "stamp" on this team-they are gutless, talentless and are afraid of their own shadows. And Mike McCarthy has found a way to take this bunch of garbage and actually coach them DOWN!!!!!!!! They should both be fired tomorrow morning, but of course, the way things are in Green Bay (publicly owned, Board of Director's, etc) that won't happen. And you just know that weenie Thompson is already making plans to throw McCarthy under the bus to save his own (snake) skin. But before Viking fan gets too bold, remember, you WILL have to play actual good teams later on (like you did last week) and when you do they ARE going to hit you in the mouth and run over you with no fear (not like this team) and when the do, good 'ole Bret is going to cough it up-both in the air and on the ground-JUST LIKE HE DID LAST WEEK WHEN HE COST YOU THE GAME!!!!!!! And as Elaine said "I Laughed and I Laughed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
