Shutdown Corner - NFL

Eight former AFL teams will wear 1960s throwback uniforms during "legacy games" in the 2009 season. Shutdown Corner takes a look back (or ahead, if you will) at those throwback jerseys in advance of the season. Today, we look at the 1963 Boston Patriots.

These are a strong contender for my favorite among all the AFL throwback uniforms. I'm not sure if I like them because I actually like them, or I just like them because they're what the Patriots wore when I was a wee tike, but the red makes me happy. The shoulder stripes make me happy. Pat Patriot makes me happy.

I think it's a shame that Pat Patriot doesn't exist in the NFL today. Honestly, is he not a superior logo to the Flying Elvis job that currently adorns the Patriots helmets? If Pat Patriot were to fight Flying Elvis, come on ... it's no contest. Pat has that pretty boy begging for mercy in about 15 seconds flat. He doesn't even have a torso.

You know what, let's just skip the middle man here. It's all about Pat Patriot anyway, so the Patriots should forget the throwback uniforms and just dress up like Pat Patriot. Pointy red hats, big red socks over blue boots, white pants that go down just below the knee, and big blue wool coats that are unreasonably frilly around the chest and sleeves.

I don't know if they'd be very practical in a football game, but it would be the most patriotic damn thing I've ever seen.

Many thanks to Football Uniforms Past and Present.

I hate the patriots with a passion, but these old uni's are awesome. I might even hate the team a BIT less if they wore these on a regular basis.

Those Pats uni's remind me of the days before they cheated to win. Wait, they never won anything before cheating! GIANTS BABY!

My Steeler fandom makes it tough for me to not be biased against the Pats, but I've gotta admit that they'd be pretty awesome if they went back to those unis and went back to being the "Boston Patriots." What's with naming yourself after a multi-state region?

Agree. It's time to bring back Pat just in time for their 50th anniversary. Jason Taylor and/or Peppers are ready to make the switch in the name of playing for a winner. The dynasty continues!!!!

It's okay to not to be a fan, but at least know what you are talking about when bashing the Patriots. I guess it's an assumption that you actually read these articles versus just looking at the pictures, because if you had read it, you would have been aware that no one is catering to the m [profane]s, that in fact 8 of the original AFL teams will be sporting the throw back jersey's and "today we look at the Patriots" implies that we will see each daily. That would implay that in fact other teams will also be displayed and not just our beloved Patriots. And l love reading how people hate the Pats with a passion, because that means we got you, hate is just a strong as an emotion as love, so either way, you cant get away from us. We own you either way. Keep grasping to your straws though, hopefully they will be enough to make you forget why your team isn't wining and competing for championships nearly every year like the Patriots are. Peace!

We Patriots fans are very aware of the bashers and haters, but we know that it su*ks to be you with your losing team, and the jealously you have because the Pats are so good, and you losers have little chance to beat them. So keep on with your pathetic whining, blaming, and crying, we just love to read your typical moron comments....Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Attn Imbeciles!! Get over it! This article is about throw back jerseys and the retro coolness of them! Get over the fact that the Patriots have beaten most of your idiot teams senseless for the past 9 years! Get over the "cheating" thing! They've already proved they can go undefeated and get to the Superbowl without doing the same things all of your teams were doing anyway but didn't get caught! Get over the fact that the Giants over-acheived and escaped the SB with a win! We Patriot fans have moved past all of this and are ready to get on with the business of our annual rite of kicking all of your asses each season. Now it's your turn. Get over it!

    ITS OVER
    get over it
    the o-line is weak,(47 sacks)
the defence can't stop the run
    thingsa change
the pats time has passed just like the cowboys,49ers,70's steelers, redskins, 60's packers
the window has closed its back to just being a good team that looses in the playoffs for a couple years
then the rebiulding begins, a couple years out of the playoffs
YOU KNOW THE DRILL, IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE
