When the NHL decided to introduce 3-on-3 overtime, one of the objectives was to allow star offensive players to create awesome highlights with tons of open ice.

(With the acknowledgment that watching star scorers break defensive ankles is much more satisfying that anything that happens in the shootout.)

Jack Eichel is a star offensive player. On Tuesday night, the Buffalo Sabres star created an awesome highlight in leading them to a 5-4 overtime win over the Nashville Predators.

Oh, what a snipe. And Jack seemed a little excited.

That was James Neal signaling to the bench for a change as Eichel motored past him. That was Colin Wilson, getting turned inside out on Eichel’s move. And that was Eichel with the marvelous snipe that beat Juuse Saros for the OT game-winner, and his second of the game and 12th goal of the season.

The Sabres reached overtime thanks to a goal by Kyle Okposo at 18:55 of the third period, as Buffalo rallied from a 4-2 deficit with less than 10 minutes left in the game.
