WHL Roundup: Leon Draisaitl scores in overtime as Raiders rally past Pats

REGINA - Leon Draisaitl scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Prince Albert Raiders rallied to beat the Regina Pats 7-6 in Western Hockey League play Friday.

Tim Vanstone had a pair, while Josh Morrissey, Dakota Conroy and Gage Quinney also scored for the Raiders (16-9-2), who rallied from a 5-0 deficit with four unanswered goals in the third period.

Connor Gay and Boston Leier each scored twice for Regina (14-12-1), which also had goals from Dyson Stevenson and Dryden Hunt.

Nick McBride was pulled from the Raiders' net after allowing three goals on nine shots. His replacement, Cole Cheveldave, stopped 15 shots.

The result spoiled a spectacular effort by Pats goalie Dawson MacAuley, who finished with 46 saves.

WHEAT KINGS 8 WARRIORS 4

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Brandon crushed the Warriors on the strength of five unanswered goals in the second period.

Jayce Hawryluk and John Quenneville, who added three assists, each scored twice for Brandon (14-13-1), while Ryan Pulock, Eric Roy, Tyler Coulter and Brett Kitt had singles.

Sam Fioretti scored twice and Tanner Eberle and Torrin White also had goals for Moose Jaw (8-17-5).

Jordan Papirny finished with 27 saves for the Wheat Kings, while at the other end of the ice Justin Paulic allowed seven goals on 36 shots. He was replaced by Zachary Sawchenko, who gave up a goal on five shots.

HITMEN 3 BRONCOS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Chris Driedger made 37 saves to lead Calgary to the win.

Colby Harmsworth, Brady Brassart and Jake Virtanen scored for the Hitmen (14-7-4).

Glenn Gawdin had the only goal for the Broncos (16-11-3).

Not to be outdone by Driedger, Swift Current goaltender Eetu Laurikainen finished with 40 saves.

OIL KINGS 2 HURRICANES 1

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Mitchell Moroz and Curtis Lazar each scored late goals in the third period to lift Edmonton.

Moroz scored at 13:47 and Lazar had the winner less than three minutes for the Oil Kings (15-9-1).

Riley Sheen had given the league-worst Hurricanes (3-21-4) the lead just two minutes before Moroz scored after two scoreless periods.

Tristan Jarry finished with just 15 saves for Edmonton. Corbin Boes meanwhile stopped 43 shots for the Hurricanes, who were outshot 16-2 in the first period and 18-4 in the second.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Patrik Bartosak's 37 saves led Red Deer past the Western Conference-leading Tigers.

Scott Feser and Wyatt Johnson scored for the Rebels (13-12-2), who failed to outshoot Medicine Hat in every period.

Curtis Valk scored the lone goal for Medicine Hat (17-7-3).

Tigers goalie Marek Langhamer meanwhile stopped 21 shots.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Tyson Baillie scored the winner at 17:06 of the third period as Kelowna slipped past the Blazers.

Jordon Cooke made 37 saves for the Rockets (18-3-2) while Zach Franko and Ryan Olsen added a goal apiece.

Matt Needham and Josh Connolly scored for Kamloops (6-18-3), which has lost nine in a row, and Cole Ully assisted on both of his club's goals.

Taran Kozun turned away 33-of-36 shots for the Blazers.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Chase Witala scored twice in regulation, including a goal at 18:19 of the third period to force overtime, and then added the shootout winner as the Cougars edged Vancouver.

Alex Forsberg, Klarc Wilson and Jansen Harkins also scored for Prince George (11-15-4) while Peter Kosterman tacked on three assists.

Dalton Sward led the Giants (11-11-6) with three goals and Arvin Atwal and Brett Kulak added the others.

Ty Edmonds made 46 saves for the Cougars as Payton Lee gave up five goals on 34 shots for Vancouver.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Oliver Bjorkstrand scored three times as Portland doubled up the Chiefs.

Keegan Iverson, Dominic Turgeon and Brendan Leipsic also scored for the Winterhawks (18-5-3) while Paul Bittner chipped in with three assists.

Mitch Holmberg did all the scoring for Spokane (17-8-1) and has a league-best 30 goals in 27 contests.

Brendan Burke made 23 saves for Portland as Eric Williams stopped 27-of-32 shots for the Chiefs.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Victoria maximized its power-play opportunities to beat Tri-City for its fifth straight victory.

Ben Walker, Austin Carroll and Axel Blomqvist each scored with the man advantage for the Royals (18-10-1), who finished the game 3 for 4 on the power play.

Connor Rankin supplied the lone goal for the Americans (14-12-3).

Victoria's Patrik Polivka made 33 saves for the win while Eric Comrie stopped 26 shots for Tri-City.

KENT, Wash. — Alex Delnov scored twice and set up three more as Seattle toppled Saskatoon.

Ryan Gropp had a goal and two assists for the Thunderbirds (14-9-4) while Ethan Bear and Branden Troock added a goal apiece.

Matt Revel and Chase Clayton produced the scoring for the Blades (10-15-3).

Seattle's Justin Myles made 26 saves for the win. Alex Moodie stopped 22-of-28 shots for Saskatoon.
