Watch: Mitch Marner busts slump with first goal in 17 games

Mitch Marner, meet goal. Goal, meet Mitch Marner.

The talented Toronto Maple Leafs forward hasn’t seen the back of the net for 17 games, but the two long-lost friends were re-introduced on Saturday when Marner potted his first goal since opening night. Picking up the puck off a turnover at the top of the circles in the Bruins’ zone, Marner unleashed a laser past the glove of Tuukka Rask, off the post and in for just his second tally of the season.

Marner got off to a slow start in his sophomore season after tallying 61 points including 19 goals in his rookie campaign. He scored on opening night against Winnipeg, but has since gone on two separate stretches of four games or longer without a point this season.

The 20-year-old appears to be rounding back into form as of late, tallying five points in his last four games entering Saturday’s tilt with Boston.
