Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Steve Mason exited his team’s Friday game against the San Jose Sharks after the first period with an apparent left hand injury, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Mason appeared to be in some pain after he got tangled up with Sharks forward Joe Thornton late in the first period. Mason stayed in the game and shortly after that play, Sharks forward Patrick Marleau scored his 10th goal of the season. Mason left after stopping 11 of 12 Sharks shots on goal.

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall told Sam Carchidi of the Inquirer that Mason was “nicked up” but the team will know more about the goaltender’s status Saturday. Rookie Anthony Stolarz entered the game in place of Mason. The Sharks beat the Flyers 2-0.

Mason has played a team-high 31 games and holds a 2.78 goal-against average to go along with a .905 save percentage.

The Flyers are currently without goaltender Michal Neuvirth, who has been out since mid-November with a lower-body injury.
