Sidney Crosby bats puck to himself for goal (Video)
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby is in the middle of the best goal-scoring season of his career.
Coming into Thursday’s Metropolitan Division showdown with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Crosby had scored 0.81 goals per-game with 22 tallies in 27 contests – which ranked first in the NHL. Crosby hasn’t scored more than 36 goals in a season since he notched 51 in 81 games in 2009-10. He’s currently on pace for 62 goals.

On Thursday, the Penguins’ captain batted a puck up into the air to himself and past Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky for a gorgeous goal.
That was the third time this month Crosby used his hand-eye coordination to create an in-game highlight. Against the Dallas Stars on Dec. 1, Crosby swatted a puck out of mid-air past Antti Niemi for a goal.
On Dec. 12 against the Arizona Coyotes, Crosby timed a flying puck perfectly to hit it into the net past Louis Domingue.
Crosby’s goal was the lone highlight for the Penguins on Thursday in their 7-1 loss to Columbus. After the first period the team couldn’t muster much, firing 16 shots on goal as while the Blue Jackets’ offense got on track in a big way.
“The first period we were really good,” Crosby said. “The second period they carried the play a little bit more. Obviously in the third period they were much better.”
