Senators' Derick Brassard to miss 4-5 months after labrum surgery
The Ottawa Senators will be without center Derick Brassard for 4-5 months after the 29-year-old center undergoes surgery for a torn labrum.
From the Senators:
“After undergoing tests following the team’s playoff series against Pittsburgh it was determined that Derick suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder that will require surgery to repair. The procedure will take place in the near future, with the expected recovery time for this type of injury being four to five months. We are hopeful that Derick will be ready for the start of the 2017-18 regular season.”

Brassard played all 19 games for the Senators during their run to the Eastern Conference Final, scoring four goals and recording 11 points. His name was on the laundry list of Ottawa players who general manager Pierre Dorion rattled off over the weekend as playing hurt during the playoffs.
The timeframe puts Brassard’s status for the start of next season in doubt. He’s been very healthy throughout his career having missed only seven regular season games since 2013.
Brassard, who arrived from the New York Rangers last summer after being dealt for Mika Zibanejad, has one year left on a contract that carries a $5 million salary cap hit.
