Sean Monahan scores gorgeous between-the-legs goal vs. Senators (Video)
Calgary Flames center Sean Monahan scored a gorgeous ‘between-the-legs’ goal in his team’s 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
The play came at the 17:08 mark of the second period. Calgary defenseman Dougie Hamilton fired a shot on goal that was initially saved by Senators goaltender Mike Condon. The puck then came to Monahan, who shielded it from Condon by putting it between his legs.
Monahan then fired the puck past Condon to put his team up 2-0. The goal was Monahan’s 16th of the season and gave him 11 points in 13 games during the month of January.
“That was just a reaction and I was pretty surprised myself, but I’m glad it went in,” Monahan according to the Calgary Sun. “I mean, I didn’t really think about it. It just kind of happened. I think that was a big goal there, I guess a turning point in the game. We needed to maintain that lead and we didn’t, but we needed to find a way to win and we did that.”
The Flames won the game in overtime on a Johnny Gaudreau goal at the 4:29 mark. The victory gave Calgary 53 points on the season, and moved them into the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
