U.S. international forward Juan Agudelo admits a move to Celtic could be intriguing, though he is still considering all of his options.
The Chivas USA striker had a week-long training stint with the Scottish giant based in Glasgow, and according to the club's manager, Neil Lennon, he impressed.
"He has looked very good, we have been very impressed with him," Lennon told STV. "We are hoping he will stay around for a few more days and we can talk with his representatives."
Lennon continued to praise the 19-year-old adding, "I haven't had the chance to sit down with everyone and discuss it, but myself and my backroom team have been very impressed."
Agudelo has one year remaining on his current contract with Major League Soccer. While he has shown glimpses of his full potential with the United States national team and the New York Red Bulls, he scored just three goals in his first season as a full-time starter in LA. But despite a poor statistical season, Agudelo's potential and the lower asking price on the final year of his contract makes him a intriguing player for European clubs to sign.
In an interview with STV, Agudelo admitted that Celtic is an attractive opportunity for him as the club gives him a chance to play in Europe but also explained that he is still considering all of his options.
“We’ll see. I’d have to consider a lot of things, but definitely, Celtic is a great club," Agudelo told the media outlet. “This kind of move has been on my mind for as long as I can remember playing soccer. Going and playing in Europe is what I would like to do. This is, right now, where the best football is being played. I would love to play here.”
Agudelo was impressed with Cetlic's fan support in Glasgow.
“[It’s] definitely something I thought of as soon as I heard the word Celtic,” he said. “I know the history. It’s basically a religion for many.
There is a possibility that Agudelo could stay in MLS. Sources have told Goal.com that the league is considering giving the young forward a Designated Player deal similar to Brek Shea's at FC Dallas. Agudelo's agent, Ron Waxman, was unavailable for comment.
