RICHMOND, Va. -- Although the Washington Redskins began this week's OTAs Monday, the media isn't scheduled to get access for interviews until Thursday, when quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to be the main target. However, general manager Bruce Allen jumped the gun when he talked to reporters Monday during a tour of the team's new training camp site in Richmond, Va. He sounded more realistic than earlier reports, which hinted of a particularly quick recovery. Allen was unsure if Griffin III would be ready when the team opens training camp in early July at its new facility. "It's great to hear the building is on schedule, ahead of schedule," Allen said of the facility. ". . . and I've heard all those same phrases for our quarterback. It's too early to tell right now. He is doing everything that the doctors want him to do. He's a great worker. I think that's why there's so much optimism that he'll be ready at the beginning. But it's really too premature to speculate on where his medical condition is until we give him a physical when training camp starts July 25." Allen declined to say what Griffin might do Thursday as part of his rehabilitation or with the media. "You'll get to see when you all come out there on Thursday," Allen said. "He's been doing a lot of drill work on his own with the other injured players. He has to just follow the doctors' and the trainers' advice on a daily basis." Allen said linebacker Brian Orakpo participated in Monday's OTA. Orakpo was injured most of last season with a torn pectoral muscle, the same one he injured the previous year. "Brian is doing extremely well and is participating in the OTAs today," Allen said.
