QMJHL Roundup: Moncton scores five power-play goals, whip Charlottetown 6-2

MONCTON, N.B. - The Moncton Wildcats scored on five of their eight power plays and whipped the Charlottetown Islanders 6-2 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

Conor Garland opened the scoring with Moncton's only even-strength goal of the game. Christophe Lalonde and JC Campagna, with the first of his two goals, made it 3-0 by 7:23 of the first period.

Mark Simpson added to the lead in the second, before Alexandre Goulet got Charlottetown on the scoreboard. Ivan Barbshev made it 5-1, and in the third period, Jack Nevins got one for the Islanders, before Lalonde closed out the scoring.

Alex Dubeau made 34 saves for Moncton (9-12-1). Islanders (10-7-2) goalie Antoine Bibeau was lifted after allowing his third goal on five shots. Eric Brassard went the rest of the way, turning back 21-of-24 shots.

DRAKKAR 9 SAGUENEENS 2

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Alexandre Ranger scored three times and set up one more as the Drakkar crushed Chicoutimi.

Dominic Poulin and Valentin Zykov each had a goal and three assists for Baie-Comeau (14-4-3), which went 4 for 7 on the power play, while Jeremy Gregoire, Felix Girard, Charles Poulin and Gabriel Verpaelst added a goal apiece.

Loik Leveille and Victor Provencher supplied the goals for the Sagueneens (11-10-0), who gave up eight straight goals after opening the scoring.

Philippe Cadorette made 26 saves for the Drakkar. Domenic Graham started in net for Chicoutimi but was pulled after allowing seven goals on 31 shots. Julio Billia finished the game and stopped 7-of-9 shots in 11 minutes of action.

VOLTIGEURS 4 ARMADA 3 (OT)

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Charles-David Beaudoin scored 3:02 into extra time as the Voltigeurs came from behind to edge the league's top club.

Georgs Golovkovs had a goal and two assists for Drummondville (12-6-1), who trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes of play, while Joey Ratelle and Jerome Verrier also scored.

Samuel Hodhod, Emil Aronsson and Christopher Clapperton scored power-play goals for the Armada (15-1-2), who have earned at least one point in six straight contests.

Louis-Philip Guindon made 18 saves for the Voltigeurs as Etienne Marcoux stopped 14-of-18 shots in a losing cause.

OCEANIC 7 TIGRES 4

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Anthony DeLuca was one of three Oceanic players to finish with four points as he recorded three goals and an assist against Victoriaville.

Michael Joly scored twice for Rimouski (10-6-4) while Jan Kostalek and Alexis Loiseau each produced four assists. Jimmy Oligny and Ryan MacKinnon had a goal apiece to round out the Oceanic offence.

Luc Deschenes, Anthony Beaulieu, Angelo Miceli and Mark Trickett scored for Victoriaville (9-9-1).

Rimouski's Philippe Desrosiers only had to make 18 saves for the win. Brandon Whitney gave up four goals on 13 shots for the Tigres and was yanked 24 minutes into the contest. Charles-Olivier Lajoie finished in net and stopped 18 shots.
