OHL Roundup: Tolchinsky scores twice, including winner, as Greyhounds beat Spirit in OT

SAGINAW, Mich. - Sergey Tolchinksy scored his second goal of the game 3:56 into overtime as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds edged the host Saginaw Spirit 5-4 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.

David Miller, Patrick Watling and Alex Gudbranson also scored for the Greyhounds (21-6-3) while Tolchinsky tacked on an assist for a three-point outing.

Justin Kea, Terry Trafford and Jimmy Lodge each had a goal and an assist for the Spirit (15-11-5), who have lost five in a row, and Luke Cairns added a single goal.

Matt Murray made 32 saves for Sault Ste. Marie as Saginaw's Jake Paterson stopped 38-of-43 shots in defeat.

Both clubs went 0 for 1 on the power play.

SPITFIRES 2 RANGERS 1

WINDSOR, Ont. — Sam Povorozniouk saved the best for last, scoring at 19:48 of the third period to give the Spitfires a victory over Kitchener.

Brady Vail opened the scoring for Windsor (19-10-1) at 12:55 of the first period.

Brent Pedersen tied it for Kitchener (11-17-1) at 15:55 of the second.

Alex Fotinos turned back 34 shots for the Spitfires, and Jordon DeKort made 30 saves for the Rangers.

BATTALION 6 ICEDOGS 3

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Barclay Goodrow had three goals and an assist and Ben Thomson scored once and set up two more as North Bay doubled up the IceDogs.

Miles Liberati and Matt MacLeod also scored for the Battalion (14-15-1) while Mike Amadio had two assists.

Johnny Corneil, Hayden McCool and Anthony DiFruscia scored for Niagara (8-19-4).

Brendan O'Neill made 22 saves for North Bay as Brent Moran stopped 26 shots for the IceDogs.

WOLVES 8 STEELHEADS 1

SUDBURY, Ont. — The Wolves made quick work of Mississauga, scoring five times in the opening period.

Connor Cummins started a scoring blitz of three goals in a 90-second span when he opened the scoring at 4:10. Jacob Harris made it 2-0, and Nathan Pancel scored the first of his two goals just seven seconds later. Nathan Cull and Connor Crisp scored before the period was over.

A power-play goal by Dominik Kubalik made it 6-0 Sudbury (15-9-6) in the second period, before Andrew Goldberg got one for Mississauga (13-16-3) at 11:10. Pancel scored his second goal 17 seconds into the third period to make it 7-1, and Dominik Kahun rounded out the scoring.

Franky Palazzese made 26 saves for the Wolves. Steelheads goalie Spencer Martin was lifted at 5:40 of the opening period after allowing his third goal on seven shots. Dawson Carty went the rest of the way, allowing five goals on 37 shots.

COLTS 5 BULLS 1

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — The Colts spotted the Bulls a 1-0 lead in the first period, then scored five unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes, to dump Belleville.

Scott Simmonds opened the scoring for the Bulls (7-19-4).

Mitchell Theoret tied it for Barrie with a power-play goal at 15:09 of the second period, and put the Colts (15-11-3) ahead for good with a short handed goal at 17:57 of the period. Jonathan Laser made it 3-1 before the period was out, and Dyland Corson and Zach Hall scored in the third.

Daniel Gibl made 26 saves for Barrie. Charlie Graham started in goal for Belleville, and allowed four goals on 39 shots before he was replaced by Jason Da Silva a little over five minutes into the third period. Da Silva allowed a goal on eight shots the rest of the way.

STORM 5 WHALERS 2

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — The Guelph Storm opened a 3-0 lead early in the third period before going on to beat the Plymouth Whalers.

Scott Kosmachuk and Tyler Bertuzzi scored for Guelph (21-6-3) in the second period, and Robby Fabbri made it 3-0 with a power play goal 63 seconds into the third.

Josh Wesley and Zach Lorentz brought the Whalers (11-17-3) to within a goal before Zack Mitchell put the game out of reach by scoring twice, including an empty netter, in the final three minutes.

Matthew Mancina made 32 saves for Guelph, while Alex Nedeljkovic faced 57 shots for Plymouth.

KNIGHTS 6 ATTACK 2

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Josh Anderson scored twice and set up one more as London won its fifth in a row by defeating the Attack.

Max Domi had a goal and two assists for the Knights (22-6-2) while Bo Horvat, Kyle Platzer and Mitchell Marner added the others.

Owen Sound (15-11-5) got goals from Zach Nastasiuk and Kyle Hope.

London's Jake Patterson kicked out 35 shots for the win as Jack Flinn made 43 saves for the Attack.
