OHL Roundup: Fox with three goals, Brown four assists as Otters blank Steelheads

Dane Fox scored three times and Connor Brown had four assists as the Erie Otters whipped the host Mississauga Steelheads 6-0 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Brown has eight assists in his last three games and is leading all players with 54 points in 27 games. Fox leads the OHL with 30 goals in 27 contests and is second in scoring with 51 points.

Connor McDavid and Andre Burakovsky each had a goal and an assist for the Otters (22-4-1) while Oscar Dansk stopped 26 shots for the shutout.

Brendan Gaunce added a single goal for Erie.

Spencer Martin turned away 36-of-42 shots for Mississauga (13-14-2), which has dropped three straight.

The Otters went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Steelheads failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

FRONTENACS 3 PETES 0

KINGSTON, Ont. — Matt Mahalak stopped 27 shots as the Frontenacs blanked Peterborough.

Kingston (13-9-3) scored all its goals in the third period, including one from Henri Ikonen at 6:18 to open the scoring.

Samuel Schutt and Sam Bennett added insurance goals for the Frontenacs eight seconds apart.

Andrew D'Agostini stopped 33-of-36 shots for the Petes (11-14-3).

GENERALS 4 WHALERS 3 (SO)

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Josh Sterk scored once in regulation and the shootout winner as Oshawa edged the Whalers.

Scott Laughton and Mitchell Vande Sompel also scored for the Generals (20-6-1) while Michael Dal Colle chipped in with two assists.

Carter Sandlak scored for Plymouth (11-15-2) and assisted on goals by Danny Vanderwiel and Zach Lorentz.

Oshawa's Daniel Altshuler made 27 saves for the win as Alex Nedeljkovic gave the Whalers an opportunity to win by stopping 47-of-50 shots in a losing cause.

STING 2 SPIRIT 1 (OT)

SARNIA, Ont. — Taylor Dupuis made 37 saves as the Sting slipped past Saginaw with an overtime victory.

Nikolay Goldobin scored the winner for the Sting (9-16-1) 3:43 into extra time while Nickolas Latta forced the extra period at 5:50 of the third.

Jimmy Lodge scored for the Spirit (15-8-4) 29 seconds into the contest.

Nikita Serebryakov stopped 31-of-33 shots for Saginaw.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Sergey Tolchinsky scored the shootout winner as the Greyhounds halted Ottawa's three-game win streak.

David Miller scored for Sault Ste. Marie (18-5-3) at 18:27 of the second period to make it 1-0.

Travis Konecny responded for the 67's (10-13-3) 1:06 into the third period.

Matt Murray made 25 saves for the Greyhounds while Philippe Trudeau turned aside 37-of-38 shots for Ottawa.

STORM 3 COLTS 2

GUELPH, Ont. — The Storm scored three times in the second period en route to handing Barrie its first regulation-time loss in 10 outings.

Scott Kosmachuk, Brody Milne and Matt Finn scored for Guelph (20-5-3), with Finn's being the eventual winner.

Liam Maaskant and Andreas Athanasiou supplied the offence the Colts (14-9-3), who were 8-0-1 in their last nine games heading into action.

Justin Nichols made 26 saves for the Storm while Mackenzie Blackwood kicked out 30 shots for Barrie.

RANGERS 4 ATTACK 3 (OT)

KITCHENER, Ont. — Darby Llewellyn scored twice, including 2:55 into overtime, as the Rangers beat Owen Sound.

Ryan MacInnis and Radek Faksa also scored for Kitchener (9-14-1) while Frank Hora tacked on two assists.

Kurtis Gabriel, Zach Nastasiuk and Damir Sharipzyanov scored for the Attack (12-10-5).

Matthew Greenfield made 23 saves for the Rangers, and Jack Flinn stopped 30 shots for Owen Sound.

KNIGHTS 4 BATTALION 0

LONDON, Ont. — Dakota Mermis and Bo Horvat scored 30 seconds apart late in the first period as the Knights blanked North Bay.

Jake Patterson made 24 saves for London (18-6-2).

Josh Anderson and Nikita Zadorov also scored for the Knights while Chris Tierney had two assists.

Barclay Goodrow was a team-worst minus-3 for the Battalion (12-14-1) and Brendan O'Neill allowed four goals on 27 shots in a losing effort.

SUDBURY, Ont. — Nathan Pancel scored three times and Mathew Campagna had four assists as the Wolves toppled Niagara.

Jeff Corbett, Dominik Kahun and Connor Crisp also scored for Sudbury (12-9-6), which went 3 for 4 on the power play, while Nicolas Baptiste had two assists.

Eric Ming, Anthony DiFruscia, Brendan Perlini and Aleksandar Mikulovich scored for the IceDogs (7-17-4).

Troy Timpano made 31 saves for the Wolves. Christopher Festarini stopped 23-of-29 shots for Niagara.
