Juan Agudelo suffers torn meniscus in left knee during 6-0 win over Cuba

New York Red Bulls forward Juan Agudelo has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his left knee, according to a statement from U.S. Soccer.

The 19-year-old forward underwent an MRI evaluation to determine the injury after the United States U23 national team's 6-0 win over Cuba in Olympic qualifying on Thursday evening. Agudelo had scored a goal in the 37th minute, but had to make way for Teal Bunbury at halftime.

Agudelo will now return to his club, where he will consult with team physicians on a treatment plan on a time frame for recovery. Tournament regulations stipulate that U.S. coach Caleb Porter cannot call in a replacement, meaning he will have to look to either Bunbury or Terrence Boyd.

The United States dropped a 2-0 result to Canada on Saturday evening and now must beat El Salvador on Monday to advance to the next round of qualifying and have a shot at the Olympics.
