Jozy Altidore scored twice for AZ Alkmaar as the Dutch side eased past lower-division opposition in the KNVB Cup, increasing pressure on U.S. national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann to recall the 22-year-old to the national fold for this month's friendly against Russia in Krasnodar.
AZ went up early through Johan Berg Gudmundsson, and the Iceland international tallied a second soon after the restart. VV Sneek soon pulled one back, but Altidore replied almost instantly with a goal, and added his second on the hour mark to seal the result.
In addition to his Cup exploits, Altidore has been in white-hot form in the Eredivisie for struggling AZ, contributing 8 goals - half of the side's total - in just six appearances.
Altidore has not been part of the USA linup for the last three matches following the team's 2-1 loss to Jamaica on Sept. 7, and was omitted from Klinsmann's squad for vital qualifiers against Antigua & Barbuda and Guatemala last month.
