Eddie Johnson has been named Major League Soccer's 2012 Comeback Player of the Year award after a stellar season with the Seattle Sounders.
Johnson struggled to find a home in Europe over the span of four years, but he returned to MLS in 2012 and resurrected his career with 14 goals, helping the Sounders to the playoffs. Johnson, who scored the game-winning goal in MLS' triumph over Chelsea in the MLS All-Star Game, also made his way back into the national team for the USA, scoring twice against Antigua & Barbuda to help the USA into CONCACAF's final round of World Cup qualifying.
This is Johnson's second time winning the Comeback Player of the Year, doing so in 2007 while playing for the Kansas City Wizards.
The league also handed out its Coach of the Year award on Tuesday, with Frank Yallop of the San Jose Earthquakes taking the honor.
Yallop led his team to the Supporters' Shield after finishing 14th in the league in 2011. Yallop's club also finished the season just two points shy of the league record of 68 points in a season, set by the LA Galaxy in 1998. Yallop won the award in 2001 as well, coaching the first incarnation of the Earthquakes, who relocated to Houston and were rebranded as the Dynamo in 2006.
