D.C. United and center back Dejan Jakovic have agreed to a new contract that will ensure that the Canadian international remains with the MLS side for the foreseeable future.
Jakovic, a 27-year-old Croatia native, has been with D.C. for the last four seasons, and he started 21 of the 23 games in which he played in 2012. The terms of his new deal were not disclosed per league and club policy. According to the Washington Post, his current contract was set to expire.
"Dejan has become one of the top central defenders in Major League Soccer and finished his best season at D.C. United,” D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a team statement. "We are thrilled to have secured his future at our club. It is an important objective of ours to keep our back line intact moving into 2013, and this signing is a big step in that direction."
