Frederik Andersen unveils new St. Pats mask honouring Pat Quinn

Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen isn’t one to shy away from eye-catching masks, and as he and his team prepare to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night, his headwear is drawing attention once again.

The Leafs will line up against the Western Conference leaders in throwback St. Pats sweaters, in recognition of the the teams of 1919–27. Andersen is taking the green and white dress-code switch seriously.

The mask honours the St. Pats era as well as former Maple Leafs player and coach Pat Quinn, nicknamed “The Big Irishman,” who died in 2014.

Last year, the netminder unveiled a Lego Batman mask, a nod to his native Denmark, where the building blocks originate, featuring Maple Leafs logos on either side emblazoned with “100” to mark the team’s centennial season.

Having fun while honouring the past — isn’t that what’s St. Patrick’s Day is all about?
