Fantasy Baseball Today: Your top waiver wire pickup and DFS plays for Monday

Fantasy baseball analyst Fred Zinkie reveals his top waiver wire add for Monday's slate, as well as a couple of daily fantasy picks.

Pickup of the Day

Alex Cobb (SP, San Francisco Giants, 45 percent rostered)

My eyes nearly fell out of my head when I noticed that Cobb isn’t rostered in nearly every Yahoo! league.

I guess I can see the case for avoiding him, as his ratios (5.61 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) look pretty bad. But Cobb has been arguably the unluckiest starter in baseball this year, enduring a .394 BABIP and a 49.7 percent strand rate. Take one look at his ERA indicators (1.75 xERA, 2.67 FIP, 2.36 xFIP) and you’ll see why I am so high on him. Cobb could be a borderline ace from this point forward.

DFS Plays of the Day

Freddie Freeman (1B, Los Angeles Dodgers, $24)

Freeman could key a high-scoring Dodgers attack on Monday when the club faces Nats righty Joan Adon (6.38 ERA, 1.64 WHIP). The left-handed-hitting first baseman has always been great vs. righties, having logged a lifetime .938 OPS in those matchups. Freeman could also produce late in the game against a Nats bullpen that ranks 24th in baseball in ERA.

Tyler Anderson (SP, Los Angeles Dodgers, $35)

Anderson could join Freeman and a few other Dodgers players in a formidable stack on Monday. The left-hander has been solid this year for his new team (4.04 ERA), and his 3.42 xERA shows that his skills have been slightly better than his actual ERA. Anderson should cruise to a win over Adon and the Nats, who rank 24th in the Majors with a .635 OPS vs. lefties.

Need-to-Know Notes

· The MLB leader in OPS, Taylor Ward (OF, Los Angeles Angels) injured his neck on Friday and will undergo an MRI today. An IL stint is possible.

· Aroldis Chapman (RP, New York Yankees) was scored upon Sunday for the fifth consecutive outing. He is also dealing with an Achilles injury.

· Freddy Peralta (SP, Milwaukee Brewers) left his Sunday start with shoulder tightness and is headed for the IL.

· Trevor Story (2B/SS, Boston Red Sox) continued his red-hot weekend by homering on Sunday. The infielder has seven homers in his past 11 games and has firmly closed the buy-low window he once had in fantasy leagues.

· Brady Singer (SP, Kansas City Royals) threw seven scoreless innings on Sunday, which gives him 14 frames without allowing a run since being recalled on May 17. He deserves a roster spot in 12-team leagues.

· Nathan Eovaldi (SP, Boston Red Sox) bounced back from a miserable outing last Tuesday by striking out 11 Mariners yesterday.

· Brandon Belt (1B, San Francisco Giants) was placed on the IL with right knee inflammation. The time may have arrived to drop Belt in 12-team leagues.

· Andrew Kittredge (RP, Tampa Bay Rays) landed on the IL with a back injury. The Rays' closer picture is now even more muddled.
