Hoffenheim snapped a four-game losing skid by trouncing Greuther Furth 3-0 on Saturday, but did so without the help of American international Fabian Johnson.
No timetable for a return from the hip injury was given.
Johnson joins a growing list of injury concerns for the German coach of the U.S. national team, Jurgen Klinsmann, ahead of a pair of World Cup qualifiers in March. The United States will already be without Tim Howard (back), Steve Cherundolo (knee) and Landon Donovan (hiatus). The statuses of Clint Dempsey (calf) and Edgar Castillo (face) are questionable.
Should Johnson and Castillo not recover in time, Klinsmann will be without his two first-choice options at left back against Costa Rica (March 22) and Mexico (March 26).
Hoffenheim is 17th in the Bundesliga, only ahead of Furth.
