Disastrous first period for Predators ends with unfortunate bounce (Video)

PITTSBURGH – The first period of their first ever Stanley Cup Final game couldn’t have gone any worse for the Nashville Predators.

They entered the dressing room after 20 minutes down 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, with the third goal allowed coming off a bad, bad, bad bounce.

As Nick Bonino drove to the net with under 30 seconds to go, his one-arm pass was sticked away by Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne. But their bad luck continued as the puck then hit off Mattias Ekholm, who had just come on the ice, and trickled into the net for Pittsburgh’s third goal.

The Predators had a tough time clearing the puck of their zone at times, which played a role in the Penguins’ first two goals of Game 1. Evgeni Malkin scored on a 5-on-3 and 65 seconds later Conor Sheary doubled the lead. This all came minutes after P.K. Subban’s opening goal was called back after it was determined Filip Forsberg was offside on the entry.
