The Columbus Crew continued reworking its roster with South American signings Friday, announcing the signing of 25-year-old Argentine midfielder Matias Sanchez. Follow GOAL.COM on Twitter
Sanchez joins Columbus from Estudiantes de La Plata in his native country, where he was part of teams that won the 2009 Copa Libertadores and 2010-11 Argentine Apertura championships. He joins Brazilian defender Glauber and Uruguayan-American left back/midfielder Agustin Viana as offseason signings to come from the south.
“Matias is a technically gifted player with valuable international experience at the highest levels of the game,” said Crew Technical Director Brian Bliss. “Our roster has been coming together in recent weeks, and Matias is another young and talented player that gives us versatility in midfield.”
Sanchez was an Argentine Under-20 player and came through the Racing Club ranks before moving to Estudiantes in 2008. He is the second Argentine on the Crew's roster, joining reigning MLS Newcomer of the Year Federico Higuain.
