Canucks' Cory Schneider heads to Switzerland
Add Cory Schneider's name to the growing list of NHL players headed overseas.
The Vancouver Canucks goaltender signed a deal to play for HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss Elite League, the club announced on its website Wednesday.
He's expected to meet the team and participate in its first practice on Thursday.
Because Schneider is a dual US/Swiss citizen, he doesn't count as an import.
Considered the Canucks' future starting netminder, Schneider had a 20-8-1 record with a 1.96 GAA in 33 games last season.
He signed a three-year, $12 million deal at the end of the season.
HC Ambri-Piotta is second last in the Swiss Elite League with a 7-15-3 record.
