Charles Ross rushed for three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, and Rice took advantage of six turnovers in a 30-29 come-from-behind victory over Texas-El Paso on Saturday. The fourth quarter has suddenly become a minefield for UTEP. Heading into the Tulane game two weeks ago, the Miners were 23-7 when leading after three quarters, including 2-0 this season. But against both Tulane and last week against Rice, the Miners blew a fourth-quarter lead and ended up losing the game. It's a difficult situation to understand, considering the Miners have one of the top runners in the game in junior RB Donald Buckram, who can usually be counted on to help run the clock out with the lead.
