Backup quarterback Shane Austin threw for a career-high 299 yards and Leon Wright-Jackson scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in overtime to lift Hawaii to a 17-10 win over San Jose State on Saturday night. San Jose State Team Report Nov 23, 2009

The Spartans suffered their most heart-wrenching loss of the season Saturday, falling 17-10 to Hawaii in overtime.

It was the Spartans' first game since the announcement that coach Dick Tomey will retire at season's end. They fell to 1-9 overall, 0-6 in Western Athletic Conference play.

"We have two weeks left together, and we are going to do everything we can to give them a chance to celebrate before this is over," Tomey said.

The Spartans hurt themselves with four turnovers, including interceptions on their first two possessions. They were outgained 405-277.

Former starting quarterback Kyle Reed came off the bench in the first quarter and did provide a spark. ...More
