Pitt outside linebacker Adam Gunn may miss the rest of his senior season with a broken neck caused when he collided with teammate Scott McKillop during a season-opening loss. There are rumblings that coach Dave Wannstedt is going to have to do a major overhaul in his offensive philosophy if he is going to succeed in this wild spread-offense era.

A former NFL coach, Wannstedt has steadfastly stuck to his pro offense, which includes mostly a quarterback under center who is not a running threat and two running backs either out of the I-formation or pro set.

The thought of change is slow to come to him, even in this era of high-throttle offense in college football.

"I don't know what you mean by full throttle, but I like to think we can make a few big plays with the backs we have," he said.

Still, losing by 10 points to Bowling Green in the opener and scoring only 17 points won't do it, and Wannstedt knows it.
