Having a bye week before the final game of the season is usually not a good thing for a team that is no longer in the hunt for a bowl game.

However, after learning that head coach Mike Sanford had been fired hours after a 45-17 loss at Air Force on Nov. 14, the week off couldn't have come at a better time for the Rebels (4-7, 2-5).

Sanford, just 15-43 in his five seasons at UNLV, has agreed to stick around and coach the team's Senior Night game against San Diego State on Nov. 28.

UNLV has fired football coach Mike Sanford after five losing seasons, a 15-43 record and no bowl appearances. Clark's 3 TDs lead Air Force past UNLV 45-17 (AP)

Air Force and it's powerful running game found little resistance from UNLV's porous defense. Asher Clark ran for career highs of three touchdowns and 160 yards and Air Force totaled 431 yards on ground Saturday in a 45-17 romp over UNLV. The Falcons came in with the fourth-best rushing attack in the country.
