The next opponent on the Kansas schedule represents the biggest reason the Jayhawks were picked by most to stumble this season.

Oklahoma, which stands 57-2 in home games under Bob Stoops, is part of the change in crossover games against the Big 12 South. Texas Tech and Texas also were placed on the schedule as home games for the Jayhawks.

Although the immediate assumption is Kansas (5-1, 2-0 Big 12) wouldn't fare as well this season with the new-and-improved schedule, it does give the Jayhawks something to prove.

They take a five-game winning streak in Big 12 road games into the Oct. 18 game at Oklahoma, and can use the tougher games as incentive.

Now that the Jayhawks are winning, no longer the laughingstocks of the Big 12, they still enjoy the part, relishing the chance to prove everyone wrong.

After deciding that Jake Sharp didn't fit the offense, Kansas fit the offense to him. As a result, the No. 16 Jayhawks may have solved a festering problem in the running game just in time for Big 12 action. Smaller and quicker than Jon Cornish and Brandon McAnderson, the featured runners in 2006 and '07, Sharp scored three touchdowns Saturday in a 30-14 victory over Colorado.

Defying coach's plea, KU students chant (AP)

Thousands of Kansas students ignored coach Mark Mangino's plea and went ahead with a profane chant when No. 16 Kansas kicked off against Colorado on Saturday. As the chant resonated across Memorial Stadium, alumni and other fans booed. The chant was first heard at Kansas in 2003 and has brought complaints from university officials and fans who say it's an embarrassment.

Receiver Dexton Fields and defensive back Kendrick Harper are expected to be ready to return from injuries for No. 16 Kansas at Iowa State on Saturday. Both have participated in practices following Kansas' last game, a 38-14 victory over Sam Houston State on Sept. 20.
