East Carolina's end game needs help. During the Pirates' three-game losing streak, they have lost to N.C. State in overtime, allowed 17 fourth-quarter points against Houston and looked silly on a fake field goal by Virginia.

"This is the third game in a row that we have lost where we've been within a touchdown in the fourth quarter," head coach Skip Holtz said. "We have had our opportunities and just have not been able to capitalize on them."

That wasn't the case earlier this season, when the Pirates shocked Virginia Tech with a game-winning touchdown on a blocked punt. And it certainly wasn't the case in 2007.

"A year ago we won eight games in the fourth quarter, four of them on the last play of the game," Holtz said.

Cedric Peerman ran for 173 yards and two long touchdowns, and Virginia turned back a second-half East Carolina rally for a 35-20 victory Saturday. East Carolina converted a pair of interceptions into an early 6-0 lead. But Peerman rallied the Cavaliers (3-3) with scoring runs of 78 and 60 yards, and the rout was on.

ECU suspends WR Bryant for violating team rules (AP)

East Carolina suspended receiver Jamar Bryant indefinitely Wednesday for an undisclosed violation of team policy. "There is an expectation of conduct associated with being a member of the Pirate football program," coach Skip Holtz said. Bryant will miss Saturday's game at Virginia. He had started 18 consecutive games, and was second on the team with 19 catches for 216 yards and three touchdowns.
