Normally, a game against Western Michigan would not engender the same uneasy feelings as with Miami, Ohio, Bowling Green or even Ohio. But Buffalo no longer can afford to stumble if its promise to rise above the morass of recent years is to come to pass.

So their next game against the Broncos (5-1, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) has become the first of seven crucial games for the Bulls (2-3, 1-1). After the 30-28 win over Temple on Sept. 13, Buffalo's next two games against Missouri and Central Michigan seemed like a perfect springboard into the MAC race and the chase for a bowl bid.
