Buffalo (4-7, 2-5 Mid-American Conference) enters the final week of the season on a bit of a high after its 42-17 win over Miami (Ohio). The Bulls lost three consecutive games prior to the RedHawks victory and fell out of bowl contention.

Playing for nothing more than pride, the Bulls' defense stepped up. It recorded a season-high six sacks and two turnovers, both by Mike Newton, who made 10 tackles, intercepted a pass in the end zone and recovered a fumble at the Buffalo 1-yard line to ruin Miami's scoring chances.

Junior safety Davonte Shannon recorded a season-high 15 tackles, including two for losses, while sophomore Gordon DuBois led a strong Buffalo pass rush with two of the Bulls' six sacks.
