Bowling Green tightened things down defensively and found its rhythm on offense to rally past Akron, 36-20, fighting for a win after the Falcons had trailed 10-9 at halftime.

"We needed to get this one to keep our goals alive and now we've got our Super Bowl (against arch-rival Toledo on Nov. 27)," BG head coach Dave Clawson said.

The Falcons are 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the Mid-American Conference with one game remaining. The win over Akron guarantees Bowling Green of at least a .500 season for Clawson in his first year as BG's head coach. The Falcons are also bowl-eligible.

In the win over Akron, the Falcons scored on offense (four touchdowns), special teams (kickoff return for a TD) and defense (a safety).

Tyler Sheehan had a record-setting day, throwing for 338 yards and two touchdowns, to lead Bowling Green to a 36-20 victory over Akron on Friday night. Trailing 10-9, Sheehan threw scoring passes of 4 and 15 yards to Freddie Barnes to put the Falcons (6-5, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) ahead for good with 4:28 left in the third quarter.

Freddie Barnes scored three touchdowns to lift Bowling Green to a 35-14 win over Miami of Ohio on Thursday night. Barnes, the nation's leading receiver, opened the scoring with a 19-yard run less than a minute into the game. He also had touchdown catches of 59 and 2 yards, finishing with 10 receptions for 109 yards.
