Auburn's Ben Tate has delivered a couple of messages in recent weeks. First, he told a reporter that he's the "best back in the state", though No. 2 Alabama's Mark Ingram is a Heisman Trophy candidate. Then, he sent a text message last weekend to the Tigers' offensive linemen pointing out that the Crimson Tide's defense hasn't allowed a 100-yard rusher in the past...

Toss a dart at any position on No. 2 Alabama's defense, and chances are you'll hit a candidate for a national or Southeastern Conference honor. Best not to throw anything at Auburn, because the Tigers can't risk any more injuries. Auburn is as thin as the Crimson Tide is deep, which could mean trouble going against Mark Ingram and a punishing 'Bama offense Friday in the Iron Bowl.

Auburn got the thing it needed most before the Iron Bowl showdown against rival Alabama—some rest.

The bye week was a long time coming for the depth-plagued Tigers, who played 11 consecutive weeks with few, if any, reserves. And now they should be recharged for No. 3 Alabama, which comes into Jordan-hare Stadium at 11-0, headed to the SEC title game to meet Florida.

Alabama is coming off an easy win over Chattanooga, but is at a bit of a disadvantage with the short week of preparation for the Friday game.

"We really feel like we have a shot of beating Alabama," tight end Tommy Trott said.

"We don't think they're unbeatable. We recognize that they're a good team, a really good team, but we've played like a really good team at times this season as well.

The next game is the biggest. That's Alabama coach Nick Saban's mantra, repeated over and over whether his team is playing LSU or Chattanooga. He might as well stick with it. The No. 2 Crimson Tide (11-0, 7-0 SEC) visit bitter rival Auburn on Friday in the Iron Bowl. Win there, and the games really will keep getting bigger.

Caleb King ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, Bacarri Rambo made a jarring tackle that likely saved the tying score and Georgia assured itself of bowl eligibility, beating Auburn 31-24 Saturday night for its fourth straight win in the Deep South's oldest rivalry.
