NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Dennis Brown ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more to lead Norfolk State to a 46-6 victory over Hampton on Saturday.
Brown was 18 of 21 for 229 yards and threw scoring passes of 71 and 4 yards to Chris Bell, who finished with five catches for 108 yards. Brown, who set a school record by completing 85.7 percent of his passes, also rushed for 30 yards and scored on runs of 20, 15 and 5 yards.
Norfolk State (3-3, 2-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) held Hampton (3-3, 2-2) to 88 yards rushing on 33 carries as LaMarcus Coker, the MEAC’s leading rusher, rushed for only 63 yards on 18 carries.
Brown had a hand in Norfolk State’s first four touchdowns as the Spartans built a 28-0 lead.
DeAngelo Branche, who rushed for 129 yards on 15 carries, scored on a 22-yard run for a 35-0 lead with 4:45 left in the second quarter.
