Preview | Box Score | Recap

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP)—Dan LeFevour threw for two touchdowns and ran for one more Saturday to lead Central Michigan to a 34-23 win over rival Western Michigan.

LeFevour went 18 for 30 for 238 yards and had the second-most rushing yards of the game with 76.

Despite the win, CMU (6-1, 4-0 Mid-American Conference) was outgunned by WMU (3-4, 2-2) quarterback Tim Hiller, who broke multiple passing records.

Hiller threw his 88th and 89th career TDs to break a school record of 87 held since 1999 by Tim Lester. He also set the school’s career completions record with his 879th.

The QB went 40 for 66 and threw for 410 yards. WMU’s kicker John Potter had three field goals.

CMU was helped to its win by kicker Andrew Aguila, who hit two field goals, and running back Bryan Schroeder, who ran in for a TD from 2 yards.

CMU will be the first to admit that the defense resembled last years all to much against Western. Western would have been better off sticking more to the run game which had some pretty good success. I don't think anyone can bad-mouth Tiller after his first awesome pass into the endzone.

Hiller may have had nice numbers, but it was the costly interception he threw just prior to halftime that resulted in WMU losing the game. The additional score was a backbreaker for WMU and gave CMU all the momentum. Hiller is a great quarterback and he did put up great numbers at WMU. Unfortunately, at WMU and CMU you are remembered for how you did in that rivalry. His legacy is 0-4.

CMU is on a roll. Ranked 31st in the AP and 29th in the Coaches Poll. Going to have to beat Boston College to crack the top 25 though. Regardless, it's nice to be bowl eligible with five regular season games to go.
