DOVER, Del. (AP)—Kory Kowalski made a 40-yard field goal with 2:12 left as Bethune-Cookman defeated Delaware State 9-7 for its first victory of the season on Saturday night.
Jameel McCleod put the Wildcats (1-4, 1-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) on the board with a 46-yard pass from Jameel McCleod with 14:16 lef. Kowalski’s extra-point try was blocked.
Michael Williams intercepted a pass with 32 seconds left to seal the win.
Johnson was 15 of 22 for 218 yards and rushed for 67 yards.
Travis Tarpley returned the opening kickoff 85 yards to the 2-yard line and Jaashawn Jones scored on the next play for Delaware State (1-3, 1-2).
Jones had 71 yards on 13 carries for Delaware State and Nick Elko was 5-for-15 for 39 yards and one interception. He replaced Anthony Glaud, who was 5-for-10 for 32 yards and one interception before leaving with a first-half injury.
