MIAMI (AP)—Aaron Opelt threw for 343 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another as Toledo defeated Florida International 41-31 on Saturday night.
FIU defeated the Rockets 35-16 on the road last year. But this time around, the visiting Rockets’ 566 yards of total offense in the game—223 of those rushing—led to five Toledo touchdowns.
Opelt, who was 18-for-32 with one interception, had a part in three of those.
The quarterback helped the Rockets (2-2) take a 7-0 lead on the opening drive when he scored on a 2-yard run with 11:05 left in the first quarter. He threw a 37-yard touchdown to Eric Page to put the Rockets ahead 38-17 with 8:50 left in the game.
Opelt and Page also hooked up in the third quarter on a 41-yard passing score.
Paul McCall was 19-for-42 with 224 yards and a score for FIU (0-3).
