Norfolk State beats Virginia State 28-10

NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—DeAngelo Branche ran for two touchdowns as Norfolk State won its season opener 28-10 over Virginia State on Saturday.

It was Norfolk State’s fourth straight win over Virginia State (1-1).

Virginia State, Division II program, took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 42-yard field goal by Justin Parker. Norfolk State answered with four straight touchdowns for a 28-3 lead. Norfolk’s other scores came on a touchdown pass from Dennis Brown to P.J. Hayden and a 13-yard run by Cotton Donovan.

The Norfolk State defense dominated, allowing only 169 total yards and 12 first downs. Norfolk State intercepted three passes and recovered two fumbles.
