Fresno State runs over UC Davis in 51-0 victory

Preview | Box Score | Recap

FRESNO, Calif. (AP)—Ryan Mathews rushed for 106 yards and Ryan Colburn passed for 161 in his first career start as Fresno State smothered UC Davis 51-0 on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs amassed 511 yards of total offense, including 310 on the ground to win their season opener in impressive fashion against a Football Championship Subdivision opponent.

It was the schools’ first meeting since 1952.

Fresno State posted its first shutout since a 30-0 victory over San Jose State on Oct. 20, 2007, and it was the Aggies’ most lopsided defeat since a 54-0 loss to Cal in 1934.

UC Davis quarterback Greg Denham finished 18 of 41 for 188 yards and an interception. The Aggies managed just 43 rushing yards on 20 attempts.

Mathews had a 60-yard touchdown run, and Colburn threw a 92-yard touchdown pass as Fresno State stormed to 35-0 halftime lead.

How exactly did UCD con Fresno into putting this game on the schedule? All good for Davis, playing a II-A WAC school to toughen up in the beginning of the year. The passing and pass defense was comparable. Davis got blown off the line on both sides, which is what WAC recruiting will do for the size and speed of the line. I notice Freson lost today to Wisconsin. Bet this game doesn't repeat next year...

Clock control was not Fresno State's forte .They need to learn manageing the game .Good game for the winning team .
We need to wait and see with Coach Hill's demeanor .No one can tell what will happen.
Fresno State Always starting out as a Bull and ending as a Dog this team does. Waiten for the winner...
