LAS VEGAS (AP)—UNLV’s Channing Trotter rushed for 102 yards and three 1-yard touchdowns Saturday night to lead the Rebels to a 38-3 victory against Sacramento State in the season opener for both teams.
UNLV quarterback Omar Clayton completed 13-of-17 passes for 213 yards, and senior receiver Ryan Wolfe, the school’s all-time leader in receptions, caught five passes for 67 yards.
Sacramento State quarterback Jason Smith was 8-of-17 for 85 yards, and running back Terrance Dailey had 101 yards on 19 carries.
Trotter’s second and third touchdowns came within seven minutes of each other in the second half to help the Rebels extend their lead to 24-3 with 12:23 to play.
UNLV’s defense did the rest.
It limited Sacramento State to 228 yards as the Rebels won their fourth straight opener.
