TROY, Ala. (AP)—Levi Brown threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns to help Troy beat Western Kentucky 17-7.
The Trojans (6-3), who became bowl eligible with the win, scored on the third play of the of the game when Brown connected with Andrew Davis on a 58-yard touchdown. Gerald Tate?s 9-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter helped Troy to a 14-0 lead.
A roughing the punter aided Western Kentucky’s first scoring drive as backup quarterback Brandon Smith scored on a 21-yard run. Sam Glusman?s 34-yard field goal gave the Trojans a 17-7 lead on the next possession.
Troy?s Jerrel Jernigan, who returned after missing last week’s game with a knee injury, caught six passes for 88 yards—all in the second half. DuJuan Harris ran for 101 yards on 23 carries. Brown hit 30-of-46 passes, and Davis caught five balls for 101 yards.
David Wolke left with a back injury in the first quarter and the Hilltoppers (2-8) couldn’t get any offense going. Smith hit just 10-of-22 passes for 56 yards as WKU was held to just 216 yards.
