Gators avoiding SEC talk, focusing on stretch run
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Top-ranked Florida has clinched a spot in the Southeastern Conference championship game. Just don’t expect the Gators to talk about it.
Coach Urban Meyer would prefer that his players don’t even think about it, especially with four games remaining before the league title game.
Florida’s challenge the rest of the way, beginning Saturday against struggling Vanderbilt, is to stay motivated and avoid a letdown.
The Gators insist it won’t be a problem.
They have the nation’s longest winning streak (18) and are coming off their most complete game in more than a month, a 41-17 victory against Georgia that gave the Gators a much-needed boost heading into the stretch run.
Vanderbilt, meanwhile, has lost five in a row and is switching quarterbacks.

You work your ass off and fight your way to the top while you pick up support along the way. You beat the best and now newcomers want a piece of you. Then when you take on all 'comers, you become critcized for not consistently beating them into submission enough, and/or your 'style points' aren't as good as others.
I've followed Florida football 43 years and played Florida football. For years, season after season, the Gators (arguably) had one of the toughest schedules in the country. Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami and FSU -were always revolving in the top 10... while others like the ACC hid in the weeds ready to upset them, ...and the rest of the SEC teams were not gimmies, either! Going back to their inception, the Gators first fielded a varsity football team in the fall of 1906. They were the ONLY team in the SEC to not win a championship and their schedules were determined years in advance, without knowing who's going to be a top team when the game is played. Since 1991, the Gators have won 8 SEC championships, and 3 national championships (1996, 2006, 2008). The Gators have won more games than any other college football team in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as "Division I-A") since 1990. It's widely accepted that the Gator's earned their way to the top and we've also know that staying #1 and at the top, is tougher than any other position along the way! Every team you face will play their best to beat you. Critics, clueless wannabee's try to pick you apart, like they're experts at the game. The reality is: they have not earned that right and are not even worthy enough to wash any Gator's uniform, because they have not been, nor will they ever be, in their shoes. The people who were waving you forward and on your coat tail, are now turning against you, trying to tear you apart. The Gator Nation is tough! We've had to be ... we earned it! When we want your opinion, we'll give it to you! GO GATORS!!

Imagine the fairness of this scenario... BSU beat Oregon in week 1. Both teams may go on and win out the season. Oregon is guaranteed a BCS berth, while BSU's fate is left in the hands of a terribly flawed system that is quite possibly a violation of Federal Sherman Anti-trust Laws, and may get passed over for TCU. How do you feel about that?
Who cares if Florida beats up on these patsies and win 2-3 tough games? Even if they lose one, they’ll most likely play for the title anyway due to the flaws in the system. This isn’t scheduling cowardice on Meyer's part, it’s what passes for BCS intelligence. If you’re a big-name program, it’s foolish to prove yourself outside of the mandated league games. A monster showdown might be fun to play in, but it isn’t proportionately rewarded by either the voters or the computers. All it does is open you up to a loss, an injury or an emotional letdown. You’re best served staying home and playing patsies.

When the teacher would take them to task for not having their homework done, they'd point out that you had gum in your mouth. Most people grow out of it. Some people have a difficult time growing up and facing reality.

One can only admire the way you say what you want and then tell everyone that you won't read any response. That's the true sign of someone who is sure that all of their points valid.

Please realize that when you hurl the same lame insult post after post that it no longer produces the effect that you intend. It merely makes you look like someone with a limited vocabulary and a defective thought process. You're very good at that, though.
