Boise State loses tight end and captain for season

BOISE, Idaho (AP)—Boise State tight end Richie Brockel is expected to miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Brockel, who has eight catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns this season, injured his left foot in the sixth-ranked Broncos’ 63-25 blowout over rival Idaho Saturday. Coach Chris Petersen declined to provide details of the injury, but said the senior was undergoing tests Monday.

The Broncos (10-0) also lost freshman running back Matt Kaiserman for the season. Kaiserman, who saw his first action last month at Hawaii, suffered a broken right leg. In four games, Kaiserman has 33 carries for 150 yards and one touchdown.

Well, I guess somebody forgot to tell BSU they couldn't run with the BIG BOYS after losing to Georgia. Maybe that would have prevented them from coming back the next year and taking Oklahoma to school. Unlike the NFL, college football players play for the university on average four years. Thus, you cannot compare a team from one year with a team from a different year. Lord knows that the Georgia team of today can't be compared with the '05 team.

Living in Las Vegas, I get to watch multiple game each Saturday. My observations regarding BCS teams are based on multiple game and various opponents. IMHO, there is Tim Tebow and the rest of Florida. The Florida team that played Arkansas was given a gift! If the refs had officiated without bias, It is Arkansas by 10. I have never seen poorer tackling by any team BCS or not. Alabama is a "ditto". Each of these teams are lucky they don't have 2 losses. Texas and TCU should be meeting for the BCS NC game.

    For the record Tj
I am not getting any funding, nor do I solicit funds, for BSU sports.
I am not affiliated in any with with BSU athletics.
Not sure why you assumed that.
I am just someone who appreciates excellence, especially from 'underdogs."
Nice to see you cease your arguing against Boise State's earning of the right to play in big money bowls.
They earned it. As you have seen in your recent research.
Enjoy the rest of the season and all of the Bowl games.

    Hey intelligence report .
I saw that article this morning as well regarding bowl projections . That would be a very good much up . Again I hope the funded ya need gets there , would hate to see a good program fail due to revenue drying up . It does cost to play with the bigger programs .

Here's an interesting article : " The Most Valuable College Football Teams" dollar wise back in 2007

    http://www.forbes.com/2007/11/20/notre-dame-fooball-biz-sports-cx_ps_1120collegeball.html

It's a big cost to compete in the top 25 and again if you can get the funding needed for long term success all your athletic programs will benefit as well . I went to a lower division school close to both USC and UCLA and I can tell you that they had vast more resources then we did and it showed . The more resource you get the better off you'll be .

    Best of all

Yeah that article was back on March 5th. Way before the season even started. So It looks like Bleymaier, the coaching staff, and the players are making the best of the situation.
Mos def need more money to build the program.
Looks like a big money bowl is in the near future. (provided the Broncos keep taking care of business on the field).

In an article "BOISE STATE UNVEILS SEASON TICKET PLAN FOR 2009 FOOTBALL ..."

    States :
"Because Bronco Stadium currently seats only 32,000 fans, Boise State is restricted to how much revenue it can generate in gate receipts and BAA memberships. This past year Boise State ranked 70th in the country for total attendance. Boise State has the smallest stadium of any top 25 school, where the average stadium holds 66,000 spectators.

The athletic department will also implement cutbacks to help with the rising costs of maintaining a top 25 football program. Cutbacks may include layoffs, furloughs, hiring freezes and travel restrictions. Every area of the department will be impacted."

The article is Taken from Broncosports.com Courtesy: Boise State Sports Information
    Release: 03/05/2009

I hope you guys get the funding you need . People losing jobs for your football program to continue completing in the top 25 is hard on the school thus far .. I hope your BAA are successful in getting that revenue generated .

The NFL should stop the Green Bay Packers from wearing green uniforms on their home green field. It's distracting and unfair to their opponents. If the Packers had to play on Blue turf they never would have won all of those NFL Championships.
Same goes for the Oregon Ducks.

I must say that you Boise State fans have "Great Heart" and loyalty to the Broncos . I salute you . After reading several other post , I must admit your passion for this team has given me an opportunity to learn more of the schools football history . I am impressed . The Broncos know how to win at every level played ;JC , Div II 1-A , Today . You have won . A hard feat for any team , at any level to do year in year out . Much respect .

I would enjoy seeing Boise compete at this level . Another good team is good for College football .

I must admit it . Boise will have a good non conference schedule in 2012 , playing BYU ,Utah and Oregon State .. Now that's what I'm talking about .. Playing both MWC contenders in one year plus a Pac 10 team is good for your program . I do hope you guys get some more good programs on your schedule . Then we all can see you run the gauntlet , win or lose it will help the program grow .

Your correct Ricky along with myself I must add.....you did not comment on the subject of the article, 2 injured Boise State Broncos' players. Instead, you felt it necessary to improperly blast Boise State football in a story that did not make the case for Boise State being in the BCS NC title game or why the big boys will not play against BSU, etc. that's the point. Thus, you are correct and illustrated my point regarding your obsession and insecurity which is obvious by hating on Boise State, even in article that has nothing to do with anything other than 2 injured players. Nice work by the way, and although I do not live in Boise and I can read - can you slanderous RICKY? But, that is why we live in a country where even those with no evidence of empathy and compassion for 2 injured players can speak their misguided mind, in my opinion. For that, congrats.

All things take time . USC is my favorite program but you won't hear me whining about their loses this year . Why I know they'll be back next year ready to retake the PAC 10 and be there for a National title . As for storied programs if you look at the history of schools , the USC s, Florida s , Oklahoma and Texas schools have many past players in the NFL or in the NFL hall of fame or coaching in the NFL . They have had many players who were impact players in the NFL as well .

Boise will have a big day next year with VT . They will not over look the opponent in front of them . As for Oklahoma looking past Boisde back in fiesta bowl . Like Alabama , they were jilted by not playing for a NC game . Young players do let their emotions get the best of them at times . I enjoyed that game as well as the other big games Boise has played against the majors and I can say . Those teams were not up to the task mentally . Dropped passes by sure handed receivers , bad tackling they played bad . Boise played a very focused game and those other schools still had a chance to beat you .
It wasn't like you blew OU out like USC did in a BCS game .

Do I think USC would lose to Boise in a BCS game this year ?No . Why ?Pete Carroll would not let his players go in unprepared , not focused and lose I don't see Pete losing again this year . USC is tough on coaches if you lose one too many games .

What do major teams have to lose by playing BSU as opposed to BSC teams? Ranking that's what. If Boise beats VT next year VT will plummet. If VT lost to Texas or Florida it might drop a spot or three. Just a case scenario. An example.
Why did Dan Hawkins leave? Yes, for money.
Why did Houston Nutt leave? For money?
Why does a coach move on? To improve his situation that's why.
No one will dispute the fact that The Boise State Broncos do not play near as tough a schedule as most BCS teams.
We are saying that BSU HAS BEATEN teams from BCS Conferences. Numerous times. We therefor think (with good reason) that Boise can play and beat such teams again.
BSU is ready to take on anybody.
Can BSU beat any team? Probably not.
But they CAN and HAVE beat Pac 10 schools.
They can and have beat Oklahoma, in a nationally televised bowl game, so it's ABSURD to say that OK did not take that game seriously, or as one poster put it, "Oklahoma looked past Boise State." How could you "Look past" a Bowl Game???
Boise would benefit greatly by playing in a better conference for so many reasons.
Boise State would love to improve it's situation. That is why the school has spent a lot of money in expansion and renovation of Bronco Stadium. BSU's recruiting just gets better and better every year now.
BSU will not turn down an offer from Mountain West, and especially not from a major conference. There would be so much money involved in such a union that Boise would have everything to gain. Even if it got beat up weekly and had to toughen up a lot. Even if the won-loss record suffered in the beginning. Even if their rankings dropped immensely, Boise State would recruit. Boise State would grow in stature. Boise State would COMPETE, in any arena given the chance.
The History of this program reflects all of the above. As BSU has progressed from Jr. College, to BigSky, to Big West, to WAC, they have excelled and become dominant.
Everyone in Boise wants the team to move up.
Right now, The Broncos play in the WAC. They dominate the WAC. And they win games against larger, stronger, better conference teams. Consistently.
THIS year, Boise State is looking to run the table against all comers.
Why not put them in the Fiesta Bowl again, against a fabled program lie USC and let THAT be the test of strength?
And next year, and the year after that they will be even better! This is a very young team this year. No one expected them to be this good. Will they beat VT next year? I seriously doubt it. But let's just see what kind of game the Broncos bring that day.
For now, why not allow them into a Big Money Bowl if they have another undefeated season?
Is Boise State as good as USC?
If BSU plays USC this post season, my money is on the Broncos. And I love SC. I love the tradition of SC Football. I think Pete Carrol is a genius. But this year, I think the Broncos are a better team.
The only way this can determined is with a head to head match up. A computer will NEVER accurately answer this question.

If BSU continues to grow and able to finance their entry into a stronger conference great .. As for now your still the little program desiring to become a major one .. If you continue to win and gain revenue dollars you'll be like Cincinnati or Louisville . But your not gonna get into a major until the other sports programs get up to par at least .
Your not Notre Dame who can pick to play as an independent in Football and belong to the Big East for all other sports .

Not bashing Boise a Fans by asking simple questions . Didn't call any Boise fans idiots or over zealous . Just give some other facts in fact I also stated that you have had success in other divisions as well as the current one . What I have said is why do you feel that they are entitled to play and that all these programs are ducking you when . USC can play Ohio State this year , Georgia can go to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma can host BYU . All teams take risk on the field of play . As you know from the games stated above a team lost . BYU beat Oklahoma , USC beat Ohio State and Georgia was beat by Oklahoma State . If these programs aren't ducking Major who can beat them why should they duck Boise . Michigan didn't duck Appalachian State and lost , Appalachian State has been able to schedule LSU and East Carolina .

But this Bosie magic keeps other teams in fear , not even close . Your squad can play on any given day when it's your superbowl , but can you play week in week out against other programs that can beat you too . The other conferences have balance . You guys even give Florida a bad rap when the same coach who put Utah in their first BCS game and won is now one of the best college coaches in the NCAA . What has he done since leaving Utah , win 2 National Championships and now has a 20 game win streak . But you guys still call them weak ..

Please I'm not bashing Boise .Just the myopic fan base amazes me at how they feel this is the best football program ever .. I don't hear high school kids making Boise their first choice . You do well with what you got . But consider this , your coach will be going to a bigger BCS school as soon as his current contract ends . Your school can't compete when it comes to dollars he Major can pay . You lost the prior coach to Colorado , Utah lost Urban to Florida . If you can't pay your coaching staff to stay they will leave for schools that will .. Peterson may be in a BCS school coaching in the next few years

Brockel will be greatly missed on the playing field. A great football player and just as great a young man. As for all the BSU bashers that love to jump on this site, I guess they've nothing better to do plus demonstrate a supreme amount of jealously. That seems to be natural for all those little people who suffer from inferiority complexes. As has already been stated, Boise State is here to stay as football power for years to come and they'll only continue to get better. It's really amazing how much this year's group has accomplished with an abundance of freshmen and sophomores playing. As for the very unfortunate injuries the Broncos have suffered this year, they'll continue to play through them as top quality teams do.

YOU came to this thread posing argument. The argument BEGAN with YOU.
Then you accuse me of arguing. Huh?
    After that:
    YOU asked for FACTS.
    I provided FACTS.
    Then:
You accused me of 'changing the subject." WTF?
Furthermore, TJ's post (#27) is indeed full of accurate statements. The FACTS that many WAC teams are getting opponents from the bigger conferences is all the more reason to question why BSU can't get those teams to play them.
No one on this thread has been bashing other teams besides you Bronco haters. We, who believe Boise State deserves to play in a big money bowl this year, have not bellittled the Ducks, or The Sooners, or The Trojans, or anyone else.
We are not using words like "pathetic" to describe another teams' fanbase.
You Ricky, are making yourself look shallow and small. It does not have to be so. Should you offer up solid reasoning about the topic we would listen (as we have on those rare occasions). I ahve even agreed with some of your statements.
But as you continue to write and bash here, you are losing ground. Your credibility is waining. You yourself are undermining what it is you're trying to say.
You are now getting personal, calling me names. That's pretty studly of you while sitting at your computer in the safety of your freshman dorm room or wherever else it is that you "rule".
I am confident you would have no such words for me face to face. But I doubt we'll ever find out.
    Grow up Ricky.
If you want to stop making yourself look to small you should either back off with the aggressive attacks, or just move on to another thread.

I don't see Fresno, BYU or Utah really having a reason to question the BCS format the way it is this year or in recent years. Oh wait it's whinning. TJ you obviously have some excessive hate for BSU and it's fan base.

As for our "Tactics", blue turf was initially installed in 1986 and I can bear witness to some serious butt whoopings Boise received by teams who had NEVER played on the blue before. That is such a rediculous statement. I have yet to see any team that played here ever say or intimate,"wow we just played worse because of the blue field, if it was green we would have won" I suppose we should also mute the home fans in larger stadiums because thats an unfair "tactic" as well?

Like I said we love our team and I guess people have a hard time understanding that. I know we have some rabid fans but so does everyother FBS school. (Just go look at some of the conference based boards) I know Boise has a long road ahead, but I think we started off better than most. Only actual play really matters so any opinion you or I have is nothing more than that. So if it makes you feel better bashing fans of a team you personally don't like, bash away. It's obvious that most people of your type just enjoy the reaction you get out of some the more "passionate" fans. I agree that Boise still has a long road ahead.

I also love where we are now in only our 13th season in the FBS. I'm happy that although the WAC is considered sub par that we have posted a 65-4 mark since we joined.

So bash away and I too will laugh at some of the rabid Boise fan responses (and the dumb blue turf ones!)

We'll be here in the years to come to say we told you so. :)
