Orange suspend 3 players for violating team rules

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP)—The Syracuse Orange have taken another hit with the suspension of three players.

A day after coach Doug Marrone announced that star wideout Mike Williams had quit the team, the first-year coach said Tuesday that he suspended tailback Antwon Bailey, defensive end Torrey Ball and offensive guard Andrew Tiller for violating team rules.

State police said later Tuesday that a car driven by Tiller was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck on the New York State Thruway early Sunday.

Trooper Jack Keller said police do not suspect alcohol was involved in the accident, which occurred at 5:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway, about 20 miles east of Syracuse. Williams, Bailey and Ball also were in the car, Keller said.

Tiller, the team’s starting right guard, was taken to a hospital for neck and back pain but does not face any charges, Keller said. The other three players did not suffer any injuries and do not face any charges, Keller said.

The driver of the rig, Nathan Primrose, of Clyde, N.Y., was not charged at the scene but may face charges later, Keller said.

Marrone also announced that junior defensive end Jared Kimmel will have season-ending knee surgery to repair his left knee, which was previously injured and surgically reconstructed in 2007.

The Orange (3-5) will have senior center Jim McKenzie back in the lineup for Saturday’s game at No. 14 Pitt (7-1). McKenzie missed the last three games with a hand injury.

OK............just to make sure I didn't miss something.......no alcohol, guns, drugs, no charges filed on any of them. Right? OK. What is the suspension for then? Were they out past curfew? Coming from somewhere they weren't allowed to be? If yahoo or the school or the coach won't tell us what they did..................then don't bother telling us they are suspended! Damn........not knowing why is worse than not knowing at all................HOOK 'EM!!!

Post#3---Have you EVER heard of Jim Brown, Larry Czonka, Floyd Little, AND scores of other wonderful football players that came from the Syracuse program, long before the Gaters crawled into the big time. Syracuse is and always has been a great football school. THEY HAVE FALLEN ON HARD TIMES LATELY- but this is much more than a basketball power. I am a Pitt graduate but have a huge amount of respect for the real Orange and Blue(Syracuse) ..

To: #8. G-Man I'm willing to bet you never played a down of real football. Because if you did you would know that in a pile up people are grapping, kicking and trying to rip arms off to get to the ball. Dirty yes,but a thug not by a long shot. You need to watch tennis or golf, this is football, a man's sport and not for cry babies like you. If you have the NFL Network try watching some of the games from the 50"s and 60's and you will see some of the same things. If you can take the heat go watch The Power Puff Girls.

WOW! Another class program..... Urban Meyer, UF & SEC should take notice as they disgrace college football by allowing a THUG like Spikes to play on!

Kudos to Coach Doug Marrone. He did what a real coach should do when his players break the rules. In the long run, this action he took will pay off for him. His players will respect him and their team rules. Better yet, when recruiting gets into full swing, the kids he recruits and their parents will respect him and give Syracuse real consideration. Keep an eye on their recruiting. I'll bet anyone half a penny (I have lots of them) that Syracuse does better this recruiting season than they've done in a long time. And I am not Syracuse fan. I just know football and people.

Pitt 38, Syracuse 13. The Orangemen get a token TD in the 4th quarter to go along with their two field goals.

Even if they were at Turning Stone, Turning Stone is 18+ to gamble. Turning Stone can get away with that because it is a "dry" casino.

I can tell you why these guys were suspended...20 miles east of Syracuse down the NYS Thruway at Exit 33 is the Turning Stone Indian Casino. These guys were underage, gambling in the casino. The accident happened after they left the casino. Underage gambling is a HUGE violation of the NCAA rules for players.

PITT should roll in this game, whether these guys played or not.
    My prediction:

    PITT 41
    Syracuse 14
