For those who like to declare when teams actually become representative of the coach directing them, the reins at Texas A&M officially belong to Mark Turgeon.

Oh sure, the second-year coach will still rely on some of former coach Billy Gillispie's players. Heavily in some areas.

But the Aggies lost two key seniors, forward Joseph Jones and guard Dominique Kirk, as well as a freshman center, DeAndre Jordan, who never lived up to his billing but was still drafted 35th overall. Take those departures into account and any strides Texas A&M makes this season will largely be left to Turgeon and his ability to mold a competitive squad.

Whether the former Wichita State coach can comply with those demands remains a question.
