Seton Hall reached its big preseason goal by qualifying for the 12-team Big East Tournament. But a first-round loss continued the team's late-season slide to the finish, and after not receiving a phone call from the NIT, the school elected to turn down a bid to the brand-new CBI Tournament.
That wasn't the only bad news coach Bobby Gonzalez received in March. In the wake of a defeat to Rutgers that ended the regular season, Gonzalez and Rutgers coach Fred Hill interacted with each other and the officials in a way that Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese called an embarrassment.
