Penn State defeats Towson 78-54

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Stanley Pringle scored 16 points and Taylor Battle had 15 and a career-high nine assists in leading Penn State to a 78-54 win over Towson in a consolation round game of the Philly Hoop Group Classic at the Palestra.

Jamelle Cornley had 13 points and Andrew Jones a career-best 13 rebounds for the Nittany Lions (6-1), who faced Towson for the first time.

Troy Franklin had 12 points to lead the Tigers (3-3), who shot 20-for-68 in the game.

A 14-3 run at the start of the second half gave the Lions a 54-27 advantage, and two free throws by Jones pushed the lead to 64-34 at the 10:57 mark.

Penn State charged to an 18-8 lead and led 26-11 with 8:24 left in the opening half. Towson closed within 32-24 on a 3-pointer by Franklin, but the Nittany Lions scored eight straight points, capped by Cammeron Woodyard’s 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer, for a 40-24 lead.
